Inserting any USB object, causes Windows to freeze up.

Damn...looks like it might be Intel's fault after all

Was beginning to think that myself, as I believe everyone who is experiencing this issue has an Intel Chipset/CPU.. unless I missed a person.

actually yes you missed me...:p

you should be able to stop this from happening by disabling any power management on the Root hubs and other usb that uses such thing....

it not only applies to Intel but to amd as well as i experienced this too (all the way from build 7000...;)

Huh.. I never had this problem in anything before RTM. I'll check the power management thingy and get back to you.

Sure, why not lol.

The first one I trusted because another friend gave it to me, he/she was running it as a primary (re-arms). I figured those problems were just because it was tampered with.

The TechNet one I got from a good friend who decided to burn me a copy of it. :)

I'am having the problem with an non-intel chipset/cpu. And the problem occurs only in RTM, not in RC. Power management thign with usb hubs didn't work, had go back to Vista :(

I have a AMD Turion X2 processor, so its not just the intels that are freezing. I have tried driver finding programs with no luck other than BSODs... I since restored to before I messed with it and im back at where I was when I made this first post.

Does anyone else notice it sounds like the device manager is finding devices while your operating your computer? I mean without plugging anything in I will hear it made its device found and device removed sounds. Im thinking this might be part of my issue..

I noticed that quite a few times in every build since Beta (Build 7000) I thought I was losing it from being on the computer so much.

This indicates power fluctuations on one of the buses - and I would wager your money that it is the USB.

There are numerous indications of problems that likely center around "brown power" on the USB.

Just because you are married and do not have money doesn't mean you can use my money in wagers! lol

Wait so are you saying its an OS issue or a hardware issue?

Rats.

Did you see my thread - http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...total-failure-stable-working-install-not.html

There is definitely something up with power on the USB.

Something that was a given when installing XP - disconnect everything USB prior to install. Add one USB device (and any required drivers - printer, example) at a time seems to be forgotten now.

Can I fire a laser at the problem? No. Can I see a power related connection between all the problems that involve USB? Absolutely.

Actually you can fire a laser at a problem it just (in most cases) will not solve anything.

Well at least its likely not my USB's. I'd hate to have a 4th reason to send this laptop in (I'm too lazy to send it in).

It may be a USB power issue... but i doubt it would be hardware related. I had 0 issues in both xp and vista... even before the RC it seemed to operate fine... it was only after I did the last install of 7 did I start having issues.

I'm having this same problem =(. I've a tablet PC with an AMD cpu and I've noticed this problem occurs 100% of the time when I come back from hibernation. If I turn off the PC and then turn it on again, I can plug whatever want =S. I installed Win7 x64 from my TechNet ISO (checksum checked and verified before installation).

I'm gonna try the USB power settings thing once I get back home, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling AHCI drivers (I've no idea where to get those). Other than those suggestions, is there anything else I can do?

Edit: I'm gonna do those solutions, and I just found something that might fix it. It's specific to my tablet, but you might wanna look at it just in case!
