Hy I am new here, so there isn't any chance that windows 7 will try to fix the problem with incompatibility ??? I am sad because in my opinion my computer would work great on win 7 if you could just provide us with a driver that will suport our dual core procesor and an ati radeon card...

Hi 122890,

I'm sorry to say this but both Vista and Windows 7 was built to take advantage of today's advancements computing. That is both Windows 7 and Vista requires fairly modern hardware and software to run effeciently.

I'll also have to point out that AGP boards are a thing of the past, same with AGP cards for, obvious reasons, thus the lack of support in the area.

Other than that, it's actually up to the video card manufacturers to support their cards. And what incompatibility issue is there with ATI's/AMD's cards running under Windows 7?

There may be driver issues, but those aren't incompatibilty issues - ATI cards not working under Windows 7 would be an example of a incompatibility issue.

The fact that you can run Windows 7 on these systems says there was/is some support..... but how long do you expect "Microsoft" to support an old technology that has been replaced?

As for Windows 7 not supporting multi-core processors....
I am sad because in my opinion my computer would work great on win 7 if you could just provide us with a driver that will suport our dual core procesor

not sure where you got that information from, but.... Windows 7 Takes More Advantage Of Multi-Core CPUs - Windows 7

And this.... Multi-Core Support in Windows 7 « IT Expert Voice

My two cents.

sygnus21, agree with everything you said above with one small exception, ATI/AMD do still support their AGP cards; at least those from the HD 2xxx series and up,

Catalyst AGP Hotfix - Radeon HD 4000 Radeon HD 3000 and Radeon HD 2000 Series AGP products

The problem here isn't the lack of support for the video card itself but lack of chipset support, primarily a working AGP/GART driver. In this case the fault for that one lays solely on Nvidia for not providing a working AGP driver for their NF3 chipsets, despite there being nothing else about a system with that chipset from running Windows 7 (then again they dropped the NF3 chipset liker a hot potato shortly after the NF4 chipset came out). And without a working AGP/GART driver there isn't much the video card driver can do but fail to install and/or work properly.

Yes, I understand there’s still support for AGP cards…. for now. I actually looked up that info in your link before making my post and noticed the missing 5000 series AGP cards, and though it's early... I doubt we'll see some 6000 series AGP cards as well. And I haven't even looked towards Nvidia.

This confirms my point about the death of AGP.... again, where are the 5000/6000 series AGP cards? And how many AGP MB are being made today?

Anyway we agree on one thing - support for this does not lay with Microsoft ;)

No, I won't make an .inf file.

Not to worry. That's because the fix for you djeffree is quite simple.

Only different thing you have to do is this first.

Download the CL_83742.rar and extract the .inf from it. Open with notepad. In the third line under [ATI.Mfg.NTx86.6.0] section, change the end 9515 to 9505.

Then follow exact instructions from my first post to install using the .inf you just made. All will be well.

I did what you described above and after restart a BSOD was shown.
I have a Sapphire HD 3850 AGP + Win 7 32bit + Athlon 64 X2 + Motherboard MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Chipset Nforce3.

Finnaly all done. I've installed some old GART drivers and now I can enjoy the full power of this card. I don't know from where I got the GART drivers, but it's an old version Microsoft certified. If anyone wants to try also this version of GART e-mail me at .

Now the last question for the man who helped me all the way TorrentG: If I buy a new graphic card with the same chipset HD 4650, but on PCI-Express can I make my PC work on WINDOWS 7??? I must remand you that my motherboard is AsRock a-live dual e-Sata with both PCI-Express and AGP, and with NForce 3 chipset.

With best regards,
Geo MECU from Romania

P.S. The graphic card is the one in the link http://www.price.ro/preturi_his_rade...%29_160793.htm

I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 512mb DDR2 running Win7 x86 and unfortunately the CL_91526.rar file from here does not seem to help. I get an error code 43 upon reboot.

My hardware IDs are as follows:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596&SUBSYS_00281787&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596&SUBSYS_00281787

PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9596&CC_0300

Does anyone have any idea how to get this card to work? I had it working under an older AGP 4x Intel motherboard, but on this SiS 8x AGP motherboard it is not working (I can provide more details about the mobo if necessary).

Instructions for installing ATI HD 2400 PRO AGP, ATI HD 3850 AGP, ATI HD 3650 AGP, ATI HD 3450 AGP, ATI HD 4650 AGP, ATI HD 2600 PRO AGP

ALL MODELS x86 32-bit WDDM 1.1:

1) Download the Catalyst 9.11 32-bit driver Suite for Windows 7 from here - Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM - Click on
ATI Radeon™ Video Card Drivers

2) Extract the driver folder by running the .exe you downloaded. It will extract to C:\ATI

3) Close installer after extraction. No longer necessary. Do not continue with install here.

4) Download my attachment (CL_91526.rar) and extract the .inf file from it. Save to desktop or anywhere you want.

5) Copy and paste the CL_91526.inf you just extracted directly overwriting the original at this location - C:\ATI\Support\9-11_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF

6) Go to device manager and right click on your video card. (Standard VGA or otherwise.) Update driver software, browse my computer, let me pick, have disk, browse.

7) Navigate to C:\ATI\Support\9-11_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF

8) Click (or double click) on the CL_91526.inf

9) Click ok, then click next and let it install. If it complains that it is not signed, click the part to let it install anyway.

10) Reboot if necessary. Pick an Aero theme by right clicking on desktop, Personalize. (If you previously had a working driver from ATI's site installed, you may skip this step.)

11) Run setup.exe in C:\ATI\Support\9-11_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\
and let it complete to install the CCC, should you want the functionality. Custom mode is best used here instead of express mode, when it asks.

12) Install ATI Tray Tools (attsetup.rar in my attachments) if you wish to overclock. Ensure adequate cooling. Disclaimer - Should you choose to overclock, responsibility falls entirely on you.

13) Update your WEI score. Start menu | right click Computer | Properties | click Windows Experience Index

If you have a different AGP card, let me know. I will make you a custom .inf.
Enjoy.

Hi,

I spent days trying all the various options. I gave up trying to get Aero Themes. I do use the current ATI driver with no other issues. This is the info in Device manager on my system as of today. If anybody has a solution which doesn't cause the Windows Desktop Manager to crash I would be interested. Thanks
