Install Updates automatically

Hi have just formatted my PC again to try and sort out this shimmering and dim effect I am having in games. Any way its first time I have set updates to Install Updates automatically in windows up date it self. When I first formatted I chose not to install updates as wanted to put drivers etc on first with out connecting to internet. Then I installed drivers, Graphic card, virus scan, even internet explorer 11 and adobe flash etc. Then I went into windows update and chose automatically install updates and ticked all. Any way I go into windows update to see if updates been installed and it says check for updates for your computer and it says most recent NEVER. At the side it says Check for updates. I have auto up date to every day at 16:00. Do I still need to check updates my self or will it do it all automatically as it says and I don't need to ever check them my self?.

Hello Skipper,

Microsoft usually releases updates every second Tuesday of each month, known as Patch Tuesday. Only critical and important updates qualify to be installed automatically. Optional updates do not get installed automatically, so it would be a good idea to manually check for updates say every Patch Tuesday evening to be safe.

thanks. After doing the automatically update the number of important updates have gone from 185 to 208 when it it checked it self at 16:00 compared if I checked them my self for 1st time after clean install. Well I checked around and only thing from optional update I want is Silverlight and this time I am not going to update from optional updates just the important updates.

Some optional updates may be good to install. It would be worth looking to see what they are for.

Thanks. Also been wondering I have windows 7 home 64bit service pack 1. when you format and look at windows up date for 1st time there is a update called. Windows 7 service pack 1 for x64-based system (KB976932). Is this a update to service pack 1 and ok to install or is it service pack 1 it self?.

Yep, that would be the actual SP1. It should be installed.
