Installed todays updates but one failure /screenshot

I tried to get help with this by reading microsoft's links but still can't get it to install , any ideas. When i check for updates it only shows silverlight but not the failed update.

Must be a microsoft bodge up. I got the same. Strangely if I recheck for updates to try it again then it reports no updates available. So I wouldn't worry as MS have just messed this up. I don't think it was marked critical in any event

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Thanks Noel but everyone is getting the same. Both our laptops doing same and my brother reports similar so must be s Microsoft gaff

While it's possibly a problem at MS's end, they are generally pretty good at getting updates right. It's far more likely that you all have a common error induced by installed software or malware.

Please post the requested data - otherwise we're all just guessing, and nobody is any the wiser.

PS: I've uninstalled the previous one from early June 2014 to see if the new reissued one can cause troubleshooting. It had install fine again.

I had the same Failed to Install KB2952664 on my Win7 x86 computer?!-
On reboot I got a pop-up saying Failed/Click to try it again, was too slow, and icon disappeared?
Couple of reboots, and says I'm Up to Date?-
I'm going to hold off on my Win7 x64 laptop until tomorrow, and hopefully MS will have it fixed (I'll Google 1st!)....

Yeah, same problem on two out of three of my Windows 7 x64 computers at home (Ultimate and Home Premium). Looking like it's a Microsoft issue, as I doubt Microsoft Security Essentials or MalwareBytes would be blocking it. Also, on the third Windows 7 x64 computer (Professional), the update didn't even appear. Searching for updates on all three computers after installing the main bulk from today yielded with no more being found.

Interestingly, this update was installed on two computers (Ultimate and Home Premium) six times prior to today's failure, with all of them being successful. The one with Professional only has it installed twice.

Downloaded the x64 version to my laptop, tried to install (didn't uninstall the early June 2014 version), and it said that the update was already in the system.

Yeah definitely Ms issue. I'd just leave well alone. The failed update doesn't offer itself again. Better to ignore than try to fix it

This is the update that is supposed to facilitate upgrading of the Windows OS to a new version, e.g. from 7 to 8.1.

It was first offered to me in April, and despite my hiding it then (I have no plans to upgrade) it was offered again in May when I hid it again. It's generally considered optional, and I shall hide it again if it is offered this week. I certainly wouldn't bother with it if it is giving problems.

Oh right I didn't know that. It's definetely to be avoided then as I would not go near windows 8 for all the money in the world. Can't stand metro and the loss of the start menu but I guess that's one for another forum. But thanks for the update, I'll just hide it if it rears its head again

Even though my computer failed to install that update what i did notice is that now my computer takes noticeably longer to shut down. Has to be related somehow

Odd. On my main computer (with Ultimate), my startup seems to have actually sped up, and shutdown speed appears to be the same. Didn't notice any difference on the other Windows 7 computers.

I saw that a report should be done to diagnose this issue , "Golden " was the one i saw mention it . Here is the report.

This update failed to install for me also with MSSE temporally off. Didn't show on restart, so .... ehh?

I looked for this failed update in my computer and found it under C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages (4 entries). And C:\Windows\System32\Catroot\{F750E6C3-3}. All associated with AMD64. Property details say they are related to security and MUM files. Total of 35 files. No idea what these files all mean, but it looks like these updates were installed, but the installed updates say it failed to install...?

I am the impatient type so if i see no responses i always end up somehow fixing it myself lol. Sometimes people respond and help and sometimes it's weeks and still no response .

When they do decide to help they are superb but it's hit or miss.

I uninstalled that update and reinstalled and it installed without issue but the shutdown problem still persisted, i then just decided to restore from an image and reinstalled all the updates again and all is good so i'm happy.

That update isn't even needed unless you plan on upgrading which i am not.
