Solved Installing HD

For the first time I am going to install a second HD and have some questionss. == I have read a website and it seems that it is a matter of putting the data and power cords on, screwing the HD to the bay and power up. Windows will detect new hardware and prompt me through the installation process. == Is that all there is to it or have I missed something?

Hello Jim,

Usually that's all there is to it.

If the new HDD is RAW, then you may also need to open Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc), right click on it's actual Disk #, and click on Initialize if it doesn't prompt you to initialize it first when you open Disk Management. Afterwards, you would just need to format it.

Just connect the SATA data cable to an unused SATA port on the MB & the power cord to the HD.

Windows will prompt for the drive to be formatted but that is standard and should be done. At that point it will run the autorun window and is a workable drive.

I have one more question. == Inside my case, there are alot of wires coming from my power supply. Would you think there should be a SATA wire available and would I have to purchase one?

Some sata drives have the old molex connectors as well as the sata power plug.
If not you can just purchase a molex to sata converter (only costs a couple of dollars)

Some of the New PSU' have both plugs on a 4 wire lead. Just have to see what you have.
