Installing office 2003 on Windows 7 64x

Hello,
I just installed Windows 7 on a new computer I built. Most all of my programs installed except when I insert my Office 2003 disk. It freezes the drive and won't bring up any information and won't un-freeze until I eject the disk. I really don't want to upgrade to 2007 as 2003 does just fine for me. I appreciate any help I can get on how to get this installed.

I am running MS Office 2003 on W7 x64, installed, updates and runs without a hitch. Perhaps the disk has been damaged or your disk is not legit?

I have my original Office & OneNote 2003 disks, but they are damaged.

Since I bought them new and have the product key, how would I go about finding the link to download these as suggested above?

Will this version of Office run on a new 64bit Windows 7 ThinkPad?

I've read conflicting reports, done some searching, and I'm still uncertain.

I am sure Office 2003 has been retired and is not available for legal download and strongly suggest no one downloads software from unknown/untrusted sources as they tend to contain malware or can otherwise cause system issues, and can lead to legal ramifications.

As for replacing disks that you have in your possession that are damaged and you have proof of purchase of see here:

According to the linked page, the items may need to be under warranty.

Worth a shot to contact them, however.

If you are a technet suscriber Office 2003 is still available for download.

It's WORTH a subscription for all sorts of reasons -- and look for a discount coupon -- you could get a substantial discount.

Considering all the other products you can download it really is a MUST for anybody doing any sort of testing.

Otherwise you could try Computer fairs or Ebay -- get the original disks with the serial numbers --you can always get the copy re-activated on a new computer --activate by phone and say you've changed your machine and installed W7 on it.

If you have the product key, you can always download it.

That won't work for Office 2003. You either have to use a key that came with a "Technet download" or the key that's encrypted into the CD. There are some programs that will scan a CD and retrieve the key -- but you'll have to search yourself on those.

You could be lucky however as sometimes if you go to the Change Product key screen you could change it to your key -- however Office 2003 needs a key to be entered before install will continue. I don't think you get "30 days" before activation --could be wrong however.

office 2003 professional install in windows 7

I encountered all sorts of problems with system freezes and crashes when trying to install a genuine office 2003 professional system onto a windows 7 home premium laptop.

I used a tip that I found on another web-site and copied the installation disk onto the hard disk (which I had to do via another XP system on my network and then copy to the Win 7 machine as the Win 7 machine kept crashing even when doing that simple task) and the install then ran without any glitches.

Someone used that method and ran into a problem of the autorun starting after every reboot. I'm guessing the appropriate thing to do would be to delete the file copied off the disk after the install.

Thanks for the comment - I have rebooted since the install without meeting that problem and have left the files on the system for the time being just in case I needed them again but if it starts to cause problems I'll delete them as you suggest.
