Annoyed with realplayer, which I use primarily for downloading and converting Youtube videos, I decided to look for an alternative and stumbled across WonderShare Video Converter. I get all the way to the end of the installation when this error message pops up:

Error Creating Registry Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Ext/Settings/

RegCreateKeyEx failed; Code 5
Access is denied.

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to proceed anyway, or Abort to cancel installation.

I've tried:
1. Running it as administrator
2. Running it in Safe Mode
3. Checking the quoted reg file's permissions (Which already was checked for Full Access)
4. Temporarily disabling both my Firewall and Antivirus
5. Running System File Checker
6. Running Check Disk

I'm at a loss. I can still install the program by pressing Ignore but I'm unable to download videos or update the program. Kinda defeats the purpose of downloading it if I can only use 1/2 of the program so any help on fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gwen,

Got same OS as you, interestingly seems that Wondershare wants to create a registry entry there.
NOT saying im right BUT it would explain Access denied
to me its putting it in the wrong place, i would expect this reg entry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wondershare/------

Maybe another user could confirm.

Where did you download it from???

Hm. You have a good point. I never really looked at where it was trying to create the file, or rather didn't think anything of it. That reg location would be for my OS wouldn't it?

I downloaded it from their official website.

I did an initial search when i was pondering trying it; it had good ratings. I'm running the free version. I'm noticing the PAID version seems to be marked as trouble.

I thought VLC was only a media player like WMP. If it's a downloader and converter as well i'll give it a shot.
