Intel GMA950 and Windows 7RC 64bit

I've seen some posts that are somewhat related. I have an Inspiron E1505 (C2D 2GHz, 4Gb, GMA950) and installed Windows 7 on it since build 7000. Only since build 7077 I've noticed that I cannot play video, only audio plays. In addition, any video editing software quits with an error that graphics hardware is not up to par (e.g. Roxio and even Windows live movie maker beta).

I decided to download the Vista 64 bit drivers from Intel ([FONT=Arial, helvetica]version 15.8.3 - 7.14.10.1504) and installed them (ignoring the error message that I have newer drivers installed already - Pre-release WDDM 1.1). It actually works, I get the Intel graphics system icon as well. I have no problems with the drivers and video playback and all of the video editing software packages work as well.

Of course, now I am getting an optional driver update on MS update for the video card.

anybody else has this problem with the gma950 drivers and is there a solution that works with the WDDM 1.1 Intel pre-release drivers for Windows 7? Hope to see a fix from Intel for this soon. Just doesn't feel right to run this with an outdated driver for a different OS ;)

thanks everybody

Hi Der Ausgewanderte I use Nvidia drivers, the drivers installed by 7 are also faulty and I get the newest from Nvidia.
Point is, just like the drivers you have installed, they work :) you are not alone and I am sure that Microsoft will fix this for the RTM

Yeah, I believe the drivers from Microsoft are scaled down. I've always have problems with them plus you don't get the nVidia control panel (for those with that chipset, not sure with the Radeon but I suspect they are the same.) Open GL apps were slow, gaming... forget about it and video playback in a lot of cases.

Upgrading to the latest manufacturer or chipset released drivers are usually the best thing you can do. Most other hardware drivers are typically fine but video has always needed extra love in my experience.
