I have followed the forum instructions to regain the use of my Chrome browser to no avail. I uninstalled Chrome following the suggestion on one forum and of course as I now have no working browser I cannot download a new version. I also cannot download or subscribe to any repair tools. My Windows 7 does boot up and the command line accessible but none of the CMD options given work. What can I do to restore my browser? The installed Internet Explorer does not work and I have no Windows 7 repair disc.
I have a BT wireless connection which shows the internet is connected and I have internet access through my hub.

When I had similar issue (No browser), I used a laptop to download the Firefox browser. You could also get a browser on a thumb drive and install/run from there. Use the "Zip" not the installer link and run without installing the browser. Just extract it to any directory and see if it runs. This will give you access to a browser if it runs.

Internet accessible but no browser

The downloaded Mozilla zip file (from my Widows 7 laptop) extracted OK on my desktop. I double clicked the Firefox application file and it tried to connect to the internet but it eventually timed out. I retried but with the same problem. I have Maxthon and Chrome Portable app browsers on a Memory Stick. Both load a blank page but cannot download a web page.
I hope I have explained the above OK. I would like to resolve this problem. I am not a high tech user so please bear with me. I am replying from my iPad.

I have booted in safe mode plus networking and ran "SuperAntiSpyware" which found no problems. "Malwarebytes" found 179 errors. I don't know how to post the log but a brief summary is as follows:-
Registry - 3 items all PUP.Optional.Price Gong.A,C:\
Folders - 17 items PUP.Optional.Cross Rider.A,C:\ and PUP.Optional.Delta.A,C:\
Files - 159 items. PUP.Optional.Cross Rider.A,C:\ , PUP.Optional.Delta.A,C:\ , PUP.Babylon.A,C:\ and PUP.Optional.Conduit.A,C:\
I re-ran "Malwarebytes" which showed no errors the second time and all previous items quarantined.
I still cannot access a web page. IE times out while FireFox thanks me for using Mozilla but can't load a web page.

Internet accessible but no browser working.

I had problems locating a suitable "Adwcleaner" download. I have now downloaded and transferred by memory stick the 3.023 version which has found a large number of folders, files, registry and browser items. The cleaning is in progress but the browser cleaning section is taking a long time. Is this normal or should I start again? I had a quick look at the "Control Panel / Uninstall Program" facility and there are no entries for "Conduit", "Babylon", "Wajam" or any other errant programs that I recognise.

The "Adwcleaner" scan and clean is complete and I can now access The Firefox browser complete with web page using "Safe Mode with Networking" but I cannot do this from a normal boot. I get a Firefox message saying "The server is unreachable. Retry the request". When I retry the same error message is displayed. Also IE won't stay open long enough to try a reset. I still have an internet connection and internet access shown.
I don't see any suspicious items in the "Add / Remove" dialog box.

Internet access but no browser.

Thank you for your reply, but I think we may have reached an impasse. The problems I have are on a desktop computer with no means of sending information out. "Internet access but no browser". Even my Dropbox won't function. I could move the Adwcleaner text file to my laptop by way of a memory stick but the Malwarebytes quarantine file would need an image taken from it which I don't know how to do in safe mode. I have in fact been communicating with you using my iPad which has a Dropbox app for transferring files if I could get the files you ask for to it.o
I cannot see where to go from here but I thank you for all your efforts. You have taught me much about malware and I appreciate that.
I would like to have seen a successful conclusion but I can see your difficulty in formulating solutions without being able to see the test results. Thank you for trying.

Hi,
We do have Malware.... experts so stay tuned,
In the mean time this might ultimately be your best option,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
If you have a win-7 disk ?
If not here is another option,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html
At worst and you have a win-7 disk,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html
If any are done I would set up this type of system backup,
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html?filter[2]=Backup
But as I stated an expert could come by here at anytime with another method,
Cheers.

Fine for me...I'm retired!
If still no luck, then, please try the following:

:info: You may want to print these instructions so you can have access to them.
Also, you may want to read them once before you apply them.

Please plug in a USB pen drive into a working computer.

Go to the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) download:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/
Select the download that applies to your system 64-bit
Save the program to the >> USB pen drive.
Remove USB pen drive when done.

Now, go to the problem computer.
Plug in the USB pen drive which has FRST.

Start the computer, and tap the F8 key until you get to the Advanced Boot Options
Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item

From there...
Select your language settings, and click: Next
Select your User account and click: OK (If you did not set a password, leave blank.)

On the System Recovery Options you get the following options:
Startup Repair
System Restore
Windows Complete PC Restore
Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
Scan your computer's memory for errors
Command Prompt

Select: Command Prompt

In the Command Prompt window, at the blinking cursor type notepad and press: Enter
In Notepad, under the File menu select: Open
Double-click the Computer icon on the left.
Find the pen drive letter, remember what letter it is, click on it, and press: Open
Close out of Notepad.

Click the Command Prompt window
Type x:\frst64.exe, and press: Enter
Note: Replace the drive letter x with the drive letter of your pen drive!

FRST starts, and prepares to run. Follow the prompts.
Click Yes to the Disclaimer.

Press the Scan button.

The scan runs, and, the program saves the FRST.txt, on the pen drive.

When done, click the Command Prompt window, type exit, and press: Enter

Back at the System Recovery Options, press: Shutdown
Remove the USB pen drive.

Plug the USB pen drive in the working computer, and please provide the FRST.txt in your reply.

Thank you Cottonball and Jacee for the recent communications. The instructions were perfectly explained and the FRST.txt file is attatched.
I also ran the Flush.bat program in both "normal" and "safe with networking" mode. There was no change I could see and my firefox browser still reports that the server cannot be reached when in normal mode.

Haggis23,

Did you do what was requested in Post # 15?
Let us know.

There are some strange files on the FRST report. We will get better information if FRST is run normally, since the system boots to Windows 7.

:info: Please move FRST from the USB pen drive to te Desktop.
Double-click the file to run it.
When the tool opens, click Yes to the disclaimer.
Click/check: Addition.txt

Next, press the Scan button.

When done, the tool presents a log, FRST.txt, on the Desktop.
:ar: Please provide the new FRST.txt in your reply.
:ar: Also post the Addition.txt in your reply.

:info: Next, use the Farbar Service Scanner
If you cannot download to the problem computer, do so to the pen drive, then move the file to the Desktop.
Download > Downloading Farbar Service Scanner

Let's get a view of all services and dependencies scoped by the tool...
Make sure the following options are checked:

Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender

Press: Scan

When done, FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.
:ar: Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.
