It might help to backup a bit and ensure the underlying system is healthy.

1. Click Start
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Thanks for NVidia info Thrash but I think I am sorted.

Things were getting worse I seemed to be losing all my drivers one at a time. My printer which I used yesterday wasn't recognised, my taskbar became one dimensional with a white background and widows which I had updates from yesterday was telling me it couldn't update. The list goes on my system was falling apart.

I contacted Bullguard and they have a live chat window. I was able to communicate with a very clever young lady called Milana. I told her of the Windows compatibility theory but she thought it was unlikely. After a period of questions and scans she asked if she could access my system and ran loads of utilities including a new windows fixit utility which detected 41 issues. I had to go to a meeting so had to leave Milana to it. I have just returned and every thing appears to working I am so impressed. I will try and contact Milana tomorrow and if I can will let you know what she found. In the meantime thank you all so much for all your help I am just so grateful to you all.

Best Regards Ken.

Just contacted Bullguard again but Milina has gone off duty. Only information I could get was that it was a system corruption but no explanation as to why.

Thank you all this is an excellent forum.

KenBaynham I don't think Bulldog people will ever blame their program but make sure you stay in contact with Milana. Her answers could be very helpful.

Based on what I have read here, it seems to me that this machine is infected with malware. Call it a gut feeling.

I suggest we take a look further into your pc.

Please do the following:

1.) Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
2.) Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
