Internet speed variance

This is just a general inquiry as to why I can download files at 3.5 mbp/s while logged into windows 7 downloading from steam.

I log into my windows xp x32 partition and download from steam and my internet cap is 1.6mbp/s. Not matter what i've done i am unable to increase the cap.

I'm just wondering if their is a hindrance in xp preventing me from downloading at my 3.5mbp/s cap.

I don`t know what program you use for downloading, but I`ll tell you this. Xp have some network related limitations which was removed in windows 7

uhm steam is used to download games and such. i use steam for both downloads and i know my connection and computer are clean and in working order i just cant figure out why my internet speed is halved in while in xp/win7

i doubt that though. Sure i know i can download from some places and can tell when my internet speed is being hindered or reduce via the download location. But steam is different. because both downloads we're made at night, late night and the traffic is slower.

I did notice that win xp has just 1 protocol feature while win 7 has ipv4 and ipv6

what's the difference between win 7 internet as far as services and software and win xp? is their and optimized settings/tcp settings?
