Is someone sharing Windows 7 with me?

Has anybody warned you off running a compromised PC?
Has anybody mentioned that a format, and reinstalling Windows and all of your applications would take much less time than you've spent chasing shadows?

I apologize for cyber-mouthing-off. I guess I just get so frustrated by my own lack of knowledge and inability to do the things necessary for completing this task that I forget my manners. I am truly sorry. I am truly grateful to cottonball & Vista King for sticking with me, even with all of the interruptions in the proceedings and my utter "no cluedness." I feel that if I were in any danger of blowing out my computer, I would be apprised of the situation and told to shut it down.

OK, then. Where were we?

I'll retrieve the mbar file the only way I know how & see if I can at least let you see it.

I couldn't begin the download from the Malware Byte Rootkit site saved to my desktop. So I went back to the acutal site, and as before, when I tried to download, the mbar file showed up while Windows was doing its security scan. I tried copy/paste, but "paste" was grayed out in the drop-down menu. So, I'm typing what I saw in the file. Everything in it is dated 3/22/13 except the "Read Me," which is dated 4/2/13. Here's what's in it:

Double click the mbar icon. To the right, under the Type heading, it should say: Application

Ah, the elusive "extract" button is at last found. When I double-clicked on the mbar file (it's a file folder, not an actual icon), and opened "Application," there was the "extract" button. I clicked on it, and it said it was extracting 28 items. But I never got to see what they were. After the extract window closed, I was sent back to the page with the mbar file icon. I thought maybe the list of extracted things would be there. Nope. A new window popped up -- Malware Bytes Rootkit Utility. It asked if I wanted to run the program, but I wasn't sure I should make a decision like that without asking what it does first.

When you double-click the mbar icon (highlighted on the left) is this what you see?
Does the MBAR prompt on the right show up?

On Cottonball's image on the right . Click on the Next button. Let it Update . Once its done updating click on the Next button . Make sure there are 3 checks under Scan Targets then click Next . Once its done scanning and it locates items you could either click on the Cleanup button or click on the Exit button and upload the logs it creates inside the folder you ran MBAR.exe from and upload them

What should I do next?

I was stopped at the first "next." My computer acted almost frozen. No action at all on the "next" button. ???

Just to make sure I am understanding: I go to the right-hand side of cottonball's post, click on it, and then click on "next." For starters.

The only place my computer is getting frozen is on the second "next" in the process. Something about getting to the page by accessing it as a post instead of as an original?

Where is the MBAR folder ( without the zipper on it ) on your computer ?

The r/h side of the image in post #87. The problem is when I go to the second page of that image. The "next" doesn't respond there.

Close the program .

Right-click on MBAR.exe choose Run as administrator . Then go from there .

That worked great! I ran the scan, minimized the results, and then I suppose I go ahead and remove the two items found by the scan? Am I supposed to post a report or something?

If you have the window still opened click on the Cleanup button . If it asks for a restart . Please restart and then rescan
