hi guys

basically it installed 5 updates on tuesday night and shut down

started it up wed and all worked fine for a few mins then if i tried loading anything my comp just froze so had to restart, which i then had to repair and restore to previous update to get it to work

wed night it installed these 5 updates again, then when i tried my comp today i got same issue again

since then i installed the media player update and 1 other and left the 3, KB976264, KB976662 & KB978637

so one of these has some kind of issue with it, anybody any ideas, as i could leave the updates and not install them but i think they are security updates and my mcafee security centre isnt fully protected now

thanks

If there are no error codes placed with the Updates, uninstall the 5 updates you installed, restart... then, install the updates ONE by ONE...

To be ultra thorough, install one of the updates, use your computer awhile, if it doesn't freeze, then that update is fine. Continue to do that until you find the update that causes the issue.

THEN report back here with what Update it is..

Check list of installed updates in Programs and Features>>View Installed updates (not in updates history! -sometimes it may show incorrect information!) .If really have installed KB976264 then just uninstall and reinstall it.

if it doesn't solve problem.

KB976264 is Application Compatbility Update Application Compatibility Update for Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2: February 2010

Maybe it require uninstall manually any older hotfix relate to Application Compatbility Update.

It might be a good idea once you have the system working, to turn updates off for a bit. Let things stabilize. The more things you change the more interactions you get. That's why I try to keep modifications of the OS to the Service Pack level unless there's a specific thing I know I need, like the "hanging copying files dialog" thing in Vista. I definitely put that fix on.

In my opinion hidding updates is not solution only workaround problem for the moment,if you leave it, you may have problem with other updates in future too.

I googled and really many people have problem with this hotfix (unable to install, loosing network connections or cannot to run system)

Try this:

1.Go to Control Panel>>Windows Update and install all optional updates (ncluding drivers)

remains new drivers find yourself in google or use this freeware tool Device Doctor Free Driver Update Software - Device Doctor, this tool help you quickly find new drivers

2.Uninstall McAffe
3.Try install this update on clean boot How to Troubleshoot a Problem by Performing a Clean Startup in Windows 7 or Vista

If nothing help I recommend to contact with manufacturer support and MS support
