Java on Windows 7 7048 64 bit

Hi

I have just downloaded and installed Sun Java from java.com: Java + You (picked the 64 bit version), but it doesn't load when an internet page is trying to use it.

I have disabled UAC and have administrative rights.

Any suggestions to make it work?

If you are using a 32bit browser you need the 32bit java

This is the easiest way to update (or install Java)

Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u12 allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove or Programs and Features and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u12-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Choose your platform...download the installer...and right click on the installer and run as administrator...that is all

You can install both x86 and x64 if you have 64 bit if you like. They will merge into one Java Control panel in the Control Panel, but install separately. Meaning both will be available in Programs and Features to uninstall when the next update comes along.

If you use both 32-bit and 64-bit browser interchangeably, you need a Java Plug-in for each browser. Hence you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively.

Actually scratch that I remember using Runescape's built in link for Java (too lazy to type java.sun.com)

I guess I got the 32 bit runtime...

It's what I've always done since I've been running x64, don't use my 64 bit IE that much, but never have any problems.

But x64 Flash is another story though.

Yeah no kidding about the flash...I got the 32bit runtime (just looked). The only browsers I use are IE (32 bit) and Firefox (32 bit by default) so it would seem that I don't really need Java 64 eventhough I am on a 64 bit platform. I guess it wouldn't hurt to install both

Is Firefox only 32 bit? I have never bothered to look that up but now I am starting to wonder

My problem is finding someone who is compiling trunk builds into 64bit, as that is what I would prefer. I have toyed (numerous times) with the idea of learning how to compile it myself, along with making it architecture specific (which are other builds) into an all in one for my machine - I have a sneaking suspicion I could really get Fx to scream along if I were to do that....

but I always get distracted by tennis, or classwork, or gfs, or whatever....

Really Adobe what the hell is taking so long for x64?
