Just got my GTX 480

apparently, doesn't need a serial, hence lack thereof..:)

That would explain it - it's been ages since I played it.

Now, go freeze your ass off :p

Just found this out.
If you have a EVGA 470/480 go to your EVGA account, then My Product page, then click Details button.
3/4 down you will see a new promotions section with a code for a full download of Cryostasis *free full version*. It says for cards purchased after May 1st, but works for purchases before that also.

This promo wasn't there the other day, at least for me, just wanted to give other EVGAers a heads up.

Ah man, I loved this game. I actually bought it because the demo really impressed me, well, the Physx. At the time I was running a Nvidia GTX 260 216s and I really wanted to see what Nvidia's Cuda/Physx were capable of. Very nice indeed, but...it could all be done on a Cpu core, or a AMD Gpu with proper code. Anyways, the game was entirely unexpected, a really different experience. All in all, I really liked it, even though my interest at first was only concerning the phsyics implementation, which they did very well. The only problem is, they seemed to forget not everyone can run physics, even Physx enabled cards, it's just a FPS hit, too much for some ppl, and, well, anyone ATI, and my god, when I look at it now, and play it, holy crap, it's like they never debugged it with Physx disabled. Many things are missing, "entirely"! lol... But the 'game' is good, damn good. Just don't expect to be impressed if you can't run Phsyx, there's even water missing in places, rather than showing a different kind of water flow, they simply showed 'none' at all... yeah..this repeats itself several times.

But hey, it's free for some of ya's. Otherwise I'd say pay no more than $10. Oh, to enable physx, even my 260 216s OC'd didn't run it well at only 1680x1050, was a while ago but mature drivers...and a quad core at 3.4. I dunno, it's good when you can run it as it was intended.
My frame rates are perfect now, beyond what I need, it's just...lacking without Physx. Maybe it 'seems' worse to me simply because the first play-through was Physx enabled, however, things are missing, and just...bland. Anyway...

UPDATE! eVGA GTX 480 will be here tomorrow for some FERMI 480 SLI ACTION :D

Finally Canceled my Amazon GTX 480 Order. I ordered a eVGA 480 on Amazon 1 day after that brand was on there site for pre-order. it's been 27 days and NOT A SINGLE EMAIL, or anything from them. When newegg, amazon 3rd party links like buy.com ON amazon's site, Newegg. Tigerdirect, evga.com, PNY, and NCIX have ALL been shipping these cards a few at a time.

I know a guy that ordered the same card on amazon March 30th and ordered 2, one shipped April 20th and the other shipped 2 days later, it's been an entire week and they still aren't to my order.. WOW, amazon Royally screwed this launch up severely.

So, I canceled it this afternoon and got the eVGA 480 from Newegg.com today at around 3:00PM. did rush processing, they shipped the same day. (did Free UPS 3 day shipping) and since I'm in vegas things come fast, so ordered today at 3, and it will be here tomorrow. so overnight FTW as i love newegg..

Another update* I will be keeping the eVGA and adding it to my water loop. so if anyone wants to buy my Gigabyte 480 2 weeks old PM me.

I wanted to make another post for this. I see you all were discussing the 5970. Not to bring up the past, but I remember ATI and all the ATI fans saying you can't compare our 4890 to the 295, thats not fair.. You can't compare a Dual GPU card to a single card, they said the same thing with the 9800GX2..

BUT OHH.. now the tables are turned and when Nvidia and reviewers say the GTX 480 is the fastest GPU in the market they claim no, it's your top end against ours. and our 5970 wins.. so now it's ok to say Top card in general, the best from both sides and compare huh. I don't think so. this is just me ranting, but for people to keep arguing all this is just lame IMO. I think the more competition the better, thats why nvidia's prices are sort of bearable this time around. cuz ATI is doing good. more competition the better for us.

Edit* oh and sorry, I've been busy fixing some PC's this week. I've got a little side deal going with someone from a cable company sending me to people with PC problems and I've been busy... $$$$
SOOOOO.. my Nickel+Copper Danger Den 480 block is amazingly beautiful. and heavy. I took pictures and haven't got around to loading them. I will tomorrow when I add that second 480 in :):):)

And just like someone mentioned in a thread on the evga forums, the acceptance of the direct comparison between the 480 and 5970 was because the 480 hype expectations would be that the 480 would not only compete with the 5970 head-to-head, but surpass it.

This is just an observation, not directed at anybody

As a general rule: rightly or wrongly; nvidia loyalists have long reveled in their superior attitude over ATI loyalists for so long, that when ATI finally had a clearly better product than nvidia, there was a serious case of sour grapes occurring.

Then when the nvidia flagship finally landed and failed to live up the massive hope and hype, to be honest, all nvidia loyalists were disappointed to varying degrees.

Now, instead of being able to easily lord it over ATI loyalists, the shoe is on the other foot where they have to defend 'their' product because the line of distinction is now a lot less clear as both camps have very valid for and against arguments.

Defense is something ATI users are used to, but quite frankly, nvidia loyalists are not and clearly - they don't like it.

Whatever the underlying reasons, maybe it is time to just acknowledge that the Top Card should be any single physical card, regardless of brand, camp or single/dual GPU status.

Bloody Big Grin
ya your probably right.. its true.

As I've said with Red vs Green, or Intel vs AMD.. I don't care who is best. I just want there to be some good competition. Without AMD we'd have $1000 dollar CPU's ONLY from Intel Nothing under a Grand. and same thing with graphics cards by Nvidia. I'm glad ATI has a great round this year and even beat them to the punch. I don't have any brand loyalty. I've been soooo sick of the arguing and fighting in forums over the 480 the last month I've stopped getting on. People asking General questions about the 470/480 will have 10 different ATI owners thread crap and say rude things and bash the thread.
It's got so out of hand I've been avoiding the Nvidia section for a while at most forums I go to.

As much as I see your post making sense, in the same manor I think many of the ATI people have been let down, and let down. or once again not got the better product. or whatever it may be for so long the last few years and had to hear it from the nvidia guys or whatever. That NOW that ati finally has this Stellar product. Beat the competition to the market. and still looks to be in a great position. The ATI owners finally are getting there first solid chance to go after everyone that buys Nvidia. And personally. They've been going a little to hard. and need to tone it down a bit. I'm fine with people defending there purchases and stuff. But it almost seems like the anger the ATI owners have is much worse this time around and they've been being pretty out of control

I'm all for competition. It keeps innovation up, and prices down. So bring it on.. but all the fanboi calling and fighting is just childish. Buy what you want, or what suits your likes or needs and enjoy it.

What I find most ironic is that every ATI user just comes in with the argument "Nvidia took too long", but look at ATI with the 2900. That was delayed for quite a long time, Nvidia got the DX10 cards out first, ATI finally launched the 2900, only to have it be a disappointment compared to Nvidia, by which time Nvidia had launched the 8800 Ultra, which pretty much stole the limelight.

Imo, I don't mind how long each side take, they can take how long as they want, and at the end of the day what they release is what matters as a whole.

I just want there to be some good competition. Without AMD we'd have $1000 dollar CPU's ONLY from Intel Nothing under a Grand.

Very true. It's great there are viable alternatives which force the prices down.

I'm currently partial to intel chips because realistically, they do offer a better 'all round' performance (especially when overclocked) than AMD chips.

For that, I'm willing to pay a few $$$ extra. However if AMD were to offer a clear i7 stomper, I'd make the switch.

and same thing with graphics cards by Nvidia.

Unfortunately, here in Australia 480's are selling for $800-$900 (with extremely limited availability). A 5970 is available for around $900 which currently makes a 480 a far less attractive proposition from a pure price vs performance perspective.

However, a 5870 which originally cost $800 at launch can now be be had for $450-$600+ with much greater availability. Due to the late Fermi's, it only took about 7 months to get this point - but at least it got there

I'm glad ATI has a great round this year and even beat them to the punch. I don't have any brand loyalty.

lol, ditto. Although I would have liked to see Fermi make it sooner rather than later (I'm definitely not the only one there) ;)

People asking General questions about the 470/480 will have 10 different ATI owners thread crap and say rude things and bash the thread.
It's got so out of hand I've been avoiding the Nvidia section for a while at most forums I go to.

That's part of 'shoe on the other foot'. It was always 10 nvidia vs one ATI

I'm fine with people defending there purchases and stuff. But it almost seems like the anger the ATI owners have is much worse this time around and they've been being pretty out of control

Again, the shoe analogy fits (pun intended :D).

However there is more vitriol from ATI users because of years worth of pent up frustration. They've waited a long time to feel smug and as such, are delivering it back to nvidia users in spades.

(In some cases, it's probably well deserved)

When a pendulum swings, there are always extremes. Currently the pendulum's upswing apogee is on ATI's side and it's going to take quite a while for it to swing back and settle back down.

In the meantime, we all have to tolerate the FUD that goes with it :sleepy:

Buy what you want, or what suits your likes or needs and enjoy it.

It is possible to do that - but to remain crap free requires virtually zero forum activity :p

People have very short memories. This latest Fermi round will end up as just another semi-remembered tit for tat argument point for future 'debates'.

Imo, I don't mind how long each side take, they can take how long as they want, and at the end of the day what they release is what matters as a whole.

If they do take their time - at least keep the hype and rumour/speculations down to a low level of 'STFU already'.

I honestly don't know what's worse - arguing about an an actual product or arguing about a speculation ;)

I don't care who is best. I just want there to be some good competition. Without AMD we'd have $1000 dollar CPU's ONLY from Intel Nothing under a Grand. and same thing with graphics cards by Nvidia. I'm glad ATI has a great round this year and even beat them to the punch.

I'm with you all the way with this.

I can't believe there are fanboys for BOTH sides. I just replaced a GTS 250 1gb with a 5850. The GTS was very good for the time I had it. I wanted to upgrade to DX11 with low power consumption at a very good price and the 5850 best suited my needs. Both companies make very good cards and thank God for both. If we only had one, prices would be thru the roof and we would not have these technological advances. Remember, competition is good for the consumer (You & I).

eVGA GTX 480 has ARRIVED! Time for some SLI Fun

I now have SLI 480's to mess around with. and boy are they exiting. I've only been messing around for a little while. This was my FIRST attempt to overclock, and my very first Vantage run. So there will for sure be more tweaking, and higher overclocks to soon come. Not bad considering now my weakest link is my Q9650 since everyone with 480's now have i7's or some 6 Core Goodness.

Anyways, My first try on Vantage OC'd at 800/1600/1900

and proof that I have 2 in there. :D

I really want a 470 or 480 but can't seem to find any with HDMI. What's up with that? I love Nvidia, but if I can't find a top end card with HDMI, I might have to switch over to ATI for this purchase. :(

All GTX 470s and 480s have mini-HDMI ports on them. I'm running my main monitor through HDMI with a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable.

lol, I wouldn't mind a 480 but when they are literally available for only 5mins plus they are the same price as a 5970 - I see another ATI card in my future

(I don't think I have the patience to wait another 6+ months for revisions/refreshes and price settling :p )
