Solved Key inserted not valid for activation

My friend came with a build desktop with a Win7 pro oem installed. Windows is activated.
As his HDD is dying he bought a new one.
He asked me to install Win7 pro oem on the new disk. He didn't have the disk, but he had the COA stick and key.
I've downloaded a Win7 pro oem iso using Heidoc down loader.
It installed without problems but now it doesn't activate.
The message is: The Win7 Pro key is invalid for activation.
How come? It's the same key used on the activated windows on the other disk.
The differences between the two installations are.
The activated (old HDD) is 32 bits and installed on a Legacy disk
The new installation is 64 bits on a UEFI-GPT disk.

Can a 32 OEM key be used to install 64 bits?

Yes it's a Intel motherboard. You're saying that a OEM license cant be used? What is an OEM "lifted" key? Is it a pirate key?

Hi Mega.

Intel produce motherboards, they DO NOT include an OEM licence

When they sell them to the OEM's, Dell etc, who build comps they add an OS and install THIER licence code onto the motherboard as part of their agreement with MS, so as to be able to sell it with W7.
A COA sticker must also be attached to the comp, this has a back-up key on it, and should only be used with that comp. If that key is used on another comp like your friends in this case, i refer to it as "lifted".

So yes its pirated

When Intel motherboards are sold to the public a Retail or System builder licence must be purchased seperately.

Mega. To add to what Roy has said, the version you used was an OEM SLP. The SLP stands for System Locked Pre-install, which can only be used by licensed computer manufacturers such as Dell, HP etc..

The other OEM type is what Roy is referring to, for you to try & get is an OEM System Builder which is what, say a small computer shop would use when supplying a customer.

Yes, you should be able to use the 32 bit key for 64 bit install.

My friend also gave me a Windows OPK that says it's a pre installation OEM. What is it for?

must have used an exploit, possibly by using OPK, which was suppossed to be used by OEM's ONLY

Just to make it clear for me (and for my friend).
Please correct if I'm wrong.

There are two major Win 7 licenses:
Retail - For customers - Can be transferred from one computer to another.
OEM - To be used by Computers builders. Valid only for that computer.

Under OEM license you have two types
- OEM SLP for big builders (HP, Dell, Lenovo etc). This license aren't for sale for customers (and is the one my friend has)
- OEM System Builder for small builders. This license are the one that you buy at Newegg etc

Volume- purchased by companies/educational establishments, (min 5) and issued to their employees/students.
