Keyboard stops working after entering the password

Hello,
when I start the computer I am prompted to enter the password which I can do without any problem with the integrated keyboard (laptop) or with the attached USB external keyboard.
After having done that the computer boots normally but the keyboards don't work anymore. Only the virtual keyboard included in the System does work.
What may be the reason of that very annoying problem?

That's a new one on me - especially both the integrated and external keyboard. Do they work in Safe Mode? Have you scanned for malware?

What about the touchpad?

Did the problem just start? You might use System Restore to go back before the problem started.
