i recently purchased a Kindle Fire HD 7" (tablet), and i have 2 PCs running Win 7 Ultimate x64 w/SP1...on the one PC, when i connected the Kindle via USB, Windows recognized the Kindle as a USB mass storage device as it should , installed the drivers, and i was able to access the Kindle via Windows Explorer to transfer media

but on the second PC, when i connected the Kindle via USB, Windows recognized a new device, but the driver install FAILED, and i got an error message stating "MTP" Driver could not be installed...i tried this several times, and always the failed driver install....i even did a fresh install of Win7 x64 on to a brand new HDD, and i got the same error again ...so obviously the Kindle does not show up in Windows Explorer, and i can't transfer anything to/from it

in Device Manager, under "Other Devices", i have "MTP" listed with the yellow triangle...i have tried letting Windows update the driver, but it always comes back with unable to locate a driver

i've contacted Amazon, but they're clueless, and believe it's a Windows issue...i've searched everywhere online, and it seems i shouldn't need any special drivers with Win7, and that Win 7 should install the device automatically as a "mass storage device"...and as i mentioned, on one of my PCs, the install worked fine, it's the second PC that is driving me nuts

what can possibly be the problem?

Fixed

I found the fix for this by accident. I was trying to start the Diagnostic Policy Service as it would not run. It gave me 1079 error. I found the fix online by changing the login to local service instead of local system. As soon as I changed them and started all three Diagnostic services the IPhone and the Kindle both popped up as external drives on my computer. The Kindle still had an error and I went to Device Manager updated the drivers and both are now connected and working. Thanks for all your help.
