Hi there,

Everyone knows about the language icons in the top left hand corner of Windows 7. Well how can I remove them?

My Computer

OS
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Hello Mitchell, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You will have the language selection icon when you have more than one keyboard language added. Here's how you can get rid of it:

(Option Four) http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/86345-language-bar-hide-show.html

1. Open the Control Panel (All items view), and click on the Region and Language icon.

2. Click on the Keyboards and Languages tab, then the Change Keyboards button.

3. Under Default input language, select the language you want to keep as your default keyboard language from the drop down arrow menu.

4. Under Installed services, select the remaining languages that you did not select in step 3, then Remove them one by one.

5. Click on OK and OK.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Brink,
Hello Elmer,

Could you post a screenshot of the location above? It may be able to help determine what is wrong. :)

Attached image(s) of (I think you wanted) Location Dialog Box, well, two images really. I love the snipping tool :D !!
I don't think it (language icon [EN], top left of the Welcome Screen) was ever there before during my many journeys through the repair install scenario. But, then again, it may well have always been there and now that I've noticed it, it just bugs me! (One of those mindless niggles in life that isn't a life threatener I suppose  !)

Strange. As a test, add a keyboard input language, click OK, then remove it to see if it may toggle off the language bar on the Welcome Screen.

Hi Brink,

Right, I loaded the first keyboard I came across, Arabic 101 and rebooted (good job I didn't make it the "default" keyboard!!).

I then removed Arabic 101, rebooted, Damn!! Phone!! Missed it!! Rebooted again but the [EN] icon is still there.

I've also done mods to shell32.dll.mui that have yet to show up (3 days ago, I've posted about this elsewhere). It's like everything is on a time lag.

Now, if you know which file(s) I would need to edit, I'd quite happily replace the icon with a blank one and/or edit any strings or dialogs I need to.

A bit of a waffle now, it may be pertinent.

Do you think that maybe watadminsvc.exe and/or watux.exe would have anything to do with it? In an MGADiag report those two files return a "File Mismatch error Hr = 0x80092003". This is why I get plenty of repair installs. After a very short time I "lose" my activation data with absolutely no option but to do a Repair/Upgrade install so I can reactivate it. Up to about #24 now I think**. That's not too bad at the moment , it's not good either , just hope its sorted before SP1 is released as then it'll become a major P.I.T.A. Anyway enough waffling.

That Brink, is the state of play with the [EN] icon at the mo'.

Regards

Elmer BeFuddled

** Is there a way of "seeing" how many times Windows has been installed on a PC? Say, like in BIOS?

Elmer,

Is this a legal copy of Windows 7 with a valid product key number, or some sort of hacked copy?

Elmer,
Is this a legal copy of Windows 7 with a valid product key number, or some sort of hacked copy?
Strangely enough, I've been waiting for that question!!! :roflmao:
It's genuine. Windows 7 Home Premium O.E.M.

A Scenario

Fresh Install.

Not activated, it sails through the online "Is this version of Windows Genuine"check.

Activated, it sails through the online "Is this version of Windows Genuine" check.

Something goes wrong (???), (Sometimes the) Black Screen Of Doom with the "This Aint Genuine Windows 7 Pal" in the bottom right of the screen, then it fails the "Is this version of Windows Genuine" check.

BUT, go to a M$ download that requires validation and it passes that  !

Activation Wizard is now dead, no way to get the 8 blocks of 6 digits to activate so I do an upgrade install, install all present updates, get the 8 blocks of 6 digits and re-activate no problem, until the next time. This, by the way, is being dealt with elsewhere (Genuine Windows Forum via social answers forum). At the moment I'm avoiding KB971033 (something to do with WGA) as I'm told although it won't cause the problem it will definitely highlight it. Once I can do a full system image backup I'm going to install KB971033 and play it, as they say, by ear.

B.T.W The 2 mismatched files, the error I'm getting is slightly odd to the bloke I'm speaking to at the moment, we're waiting to see if we need to bring the big gun in.
Strangely, MGADiag doesn't complain about the files that I have hacked, then again they're just the usual system files everybody plays with..

So yes, it is genuine.

Brink,

I've just logged out, something I never do as I'm "sole user". Clicked on the [EN] button and found English UK (ticked) and English US.

I logged back and did some cruising through all the keyboard settings but found nothing.

But then I found THIS (3 pictures will do better than a thousand words).

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...e-settings-copy-new-users-welcome-screen.html

NOTE PICTURE 3, TICK BOTH BOXES

:hot:

This issue is now solved (Praise be to Arthur Guinness). Can I mark a thread solved or are they left open ended?

Elmer BeFuddled.

BTW, Great site you got here. And a REP to you Sir, for your help, I doff my cap to you.

P.S. If/When My Activation issue gets resolved I'll let you know what/how was done.
I can't be the only person who's come across / will come across this problem (probably am!!!)
