Laptop display fade in upper part

My Dell Latitude display is fading in the upper third. It works fine with an external monitor. I attached a picture. Is it fixable?
I googled and saw that I can relatively easily replace the inverter ($ 60) or the fluorescent bulb ($10). however, those would cause the screen to be all black or very dark. So it looks like something else is broken. Any ideas?

Obviously replacing the entire screen (if I can even buy one) might be too expensive and not worth it.

I haven't opened it up yet, wanted to research first what repair options I have.

Edit: when the mouse pointer is in the upper third it is almost invisible and leaves traces.

Thanks

That is going to need the screen to be replaced

Same thing happened to my cousins monitor after he cleaned it with Windex...he let the screen dry but the same fading happened to his like yours

Hopefully someone can reccomened something to the contrary (as a new screen is expensive...)

My old HP (now being used to stream Netflix to my TV) had the same problem. The cost to replace was around $150.00 if I remember right (remembering something is hard on me). So I just hooked it to the TV for a Media Player (works great). So if a new one is out of the question, and you need it to be mobile, then the cost is minor.

thanks for the help. I meanwhile took it apart and hold the screen in my hand hoping I would see any dust or lose wire to fix, But nothing. Put it together and still the same problem.

I found a screen at screen country for $ 120 + shipping. that actually is cheaper than I feared. I guess if a new screen is what it is, it has to be. but I'd like to be sure it is the screen and not a nicked cable. It seems the new screen doesn't come with a new cable set (the one to the motherboard).
does anyone have experience with LAPTOP SCREEN FROM $54. HP ACER TOSHIBA DELL APPLE COMPAQ. Notebook screen, laptop display, notebook lcd, laptop tft, screen DELL, ACER lcd, screens SONY, lcd DELL, ACER lcd. the similar screen here is much more expensive and list price is $ 499, which would make me buy a new laptop. Now i know how they screw you whne you send it in or have a shop repair the laptop for you, they probably charge $ 499+ labor + advice what is wrong. no wonder people buy those extended warranties, that cost more than a screen from screencountry....
