Laptop graphic card

Hi Ppl,

I just bought an Asus laptop and it comes with Nvidia graphic card. When I execute my CCleaner, the default graphic card shown on the screen is Intel HD graphic.

Any one knows of how can I set my nvidia as default?

Maybe its the CCleaner software if your sure it s not name the model number of the laptop, its usualy on the back, your being a bit vauge.

you're probably one of the lucky individuals who has a laptop with discrete & integrated graphics.. and depending on your power settings, one or the other is active at any give time

I didnt update my spec list. Acer was my old laptop...

Im using Asus A42J series and the following are the specs:

Intel I5 450M Processor
Win 7 Home Premium 64bit
Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset
4GB DDR3 Ram
Nvidia Geforce 310M: VRAM 1GB

Exactly what I thought at first.. you have switchable graphics.Problem solved

It does it automatically based on usage; things like regular use (browsing, working on documents, etc) will use the low power Intel graphics, while games and such will use the faster Nvidia graphics.

As for as changing it manually, I haven't seen yet how or if it is possible on those setups. It also pretty much means you can only use the drivers for each from the laptop manufacturer as they will have modded the install/setup routines of the drivers to work with this switching. Another thing from what I have seen with these laptops, is that the Intel driver has to be installed first or the other (doesn't seem to matter if it is Intel with Nvidia, or Intel with ATI) driver will not install.

In the Alienware laptops the onboard GPU will activate when you are on battery or hit the hot keys to use the lower graphics. The top end GPU if it is a singles or GPU's (SLi for nVidia GPU's and CrossFireX fro ATi) work when not on battery. One of the odd things is that if you run while on battery and then plug power in the GPU will not switch to the higher end GPU and you must go into the BIOS to switch this back although once you understand the settings you can easily make the change necessary during the boot cycle. I don't know if your Asus is like this but thought I'd add the fact that at least Alienware and I believe Sager and Clevo are like this.

We have a new Gateway NV59C57u laptop here. It has the i5-450M processor and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphics adapter. I've been curious about how this "dual video" hybrid would work, particularly when it comes to drivers.

What I have noticed is that in Device Manager there is only one graphic adapter listed, and in the BIOS there is no setting to enable or disable an Intel (or any) graphic adapter. So I'm confused regarding "where it is"!

I'd like to learn more about this setup. Any info or links?
