Laptop ram in my new laptop.

So i have an acer aspire 6935g which is faulty so i'm going to have to sell. Thing is i'd like to take 2GB of ram out of it and put it in my new laptop which should arrive by monday.. the new laptop is a Samsung RV510, Is it possible to just take the ram from my acer and insert it into the samsung?

Help appreciated.

Ps if anyone want's to buy the acer the problem is it won't turn on for some reason, and the backlight in the screen is out of place .. i think, as you can still see the screen in the light.

4GB Ram - might go down to 2.

It appears to be the same kind of ram, but I think you are only allotted two slots in each of them. So assuming the RV510 has more than 2 gigs of ram in it, you're already better off. The spec sheet I'm looking at says 3 gigs.
Now if the aspire by some weird chance is just one 2 gig chip (which I seriously doubt) you could swap it for the 1 gig in the samsung and gain 1 extra gig.

Of course I'm looking at generic spec sheets, I could be slightly off. Though it's rare for a laptop to have more than 2 slots for ram unless it's just super high end stuff.

The acer has 2 slot's for the ram and the ram sheet's are 2GB each stick as i have had them out before.
The samsung i'm getting has 2GB of ram installed so i'm guessing i could just insert 1 sheet of ram into the samsung to bring it to 4GB?

Yeh the acer has 4GB Of ram, 2GB each stick.

they both appear to be ddr3 sodimm's so it shouldn't be a problem.
Mind you as I said I'm looking at generic spec sheets, not the exact specific one you are purchasing more than likely.

Yeh i did check before purchase, there both DDR3.

Sorry to be awkward, but do you know if it's difficult to install ram on samsung laptop's, as i've only ever used an acer.

it's been the same on all the laptops I've ever owned, one is easily accessible from the underside , and the other is either also located there, or is hidden under the keyboard, which ...usually isn't that hard to get off a laptop if you are brave enough to unscrew and pop off the top of the upper panel.

for anyone that owns a computer or laptop it doesn't hurt to drop by the local fry's or microcenter and buy a bargain bin computer tool set. I've seen them for 5 bucks. It's worth it to have properly sized screwdrivers for the job. ...of course a decent one that includes hex is going to cost a little more than that, but there's no reason you should ever have to buy a second one.

Programs and background applications both function better, and faster when they have more ram to occupy. RAM is much much faster than any hdd. It'll also allow you to run more and larger apps at the same time without the system bogging down.

The benefits of more ram are kind of self explanatory, when you don't have enough ram windows will lean very heavily on the pagefile. What that means is that it will constantly be putting strain on the hard drive using it as 'virtual ram' this is harder on the hardware and causes more heat. Especially in a laptop where heat isn't dissipated as well as in a larger desktop case.

Alright you've been a great help this morning and i'm now looking even more forward to receiving my new laptop which should arrive tomorrow or monday..!

Last question before i go as i'm not too good with Laptop's.

Is 6GB a good size to have? or will i need more.

I'm running my primary system on 4 gigs right now, I game and I run large apps quite often I have no complaints.

I just noticed you are saying 6, I think you are looking at 4 even with the swap. ...possibly 5, I don't really know the exact config you're winding up with like I said. There's like 15 sub versions of every type of laptop.

The samsung will come with 2GB pre installed, and i have 4GB of ram in the acer.

I will take the 4GB from the acer, and install it into the samsung along with the 2GB there, = 6GB of total ram : )

If that's what were talking about lol

EDIT: i was just told the samsung only has 2 slot's meaning ill only be able to upgrade to 4gb total

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone who has anyone knowledge of this laptop know how many ram slot's it has? It come's pre installed with 2GB of ram but i want to up that.
