New ram memory won't work on laptop

Hi all,

I have a Lenovo 100-14iby which supports up to 8GB ram. Currently it is working on 2GB. I bought a new ram stick with 8GB (I only have one slot). I have now M471B5674QH0-YK0 and upgraded with KVR16LS11/8.

From what I can see they have all the same specs expect for the memory size, but why won't the 8GB work on the laptop? When I start the laptop I only see a black screen. When I put back the 2GB ram, it works well.

Your link describes it as DDR3L-1600 CL11 SDRAM so it should be ok.

With the 8gb installed, are you able to get into bios by tapping the f2 key or whatever it is for your machine ?

Maybe you need to do something in bios, or at least see if it is recognized.

No, it does nothing even the backlight is off.

I dont suppose you have another machine to test it.

Is your bios up to date?

No, I dont have an other machine to test. The BIOS is updated to the latest version. It is strange that the list of compatible parts, there is no 8GB, I don't know if this is correct. According to Crucial.com your IdeaPad 100-14IBY was supplied with either 2GB or 4GB as standard, but can support up to 8GB.

which 8GB RAM stick did the OP get? Kingston?

perhaps try buying the Crucial or Samsung 8Gb RAM stick (for Samsung it's M471b1g73bh0-yk0 - search for that one)[h=1][/h]

According to the previous comments in this thread, his laptop supports a maximum of 8 GB of DDR3 RAM.
Why in the world would you advise him to install 16 GB of DDR4 RAM in his laptop?
