I believe Windows Defender is on the Local Account. It's not on the Microsoft account. If I switch a to a local account, it may work. That's what I am thinking by what its saying. Here is the screenshot of what I am trying to explain. Do you understand what I am saying now?

I seriously doubt it, but you can try. It should work signed in by either method, anyway.

Can we see full list of Control Panel>Programs and Features to see if something might be interpreted as protection?

If you want you can skip to Refresh Windows 8. If this is a buggy factory install then it will come close to achieving a Clean Reinstall, but you'll need to reinstall your programs. Do you have your Office 365 installer and key?

Backup your files first.

Do you have Windows 8.1 installation media in case it prompts to insert it in some cases?

Immediately afterward Check for Updates to install all Important and Optional.

Maybe Maxie has some other suggestions first?

Yes. I have everything. I have done refreshes on it before, but not since they fixed it from the sleep issue.

I think your best Option might be to Install another av and forget about Defender ... It would be a lot less hassle ..

Panda Cloud is good since MSE won't install. It is as lightweight but slightly more aggressive.

Okay...But, now we have faster internet now that is more reliable. So, it may not be a bad idea to refresh. What do you all think?

What were your problems with Panda? I've not heard this back from my Clean Reinstall tutorial which is up to 1.3 million users now and I've listed Panda secondary to MSE for over a year now.

The biggest value of Refresh other than solving this one issue is that it would clean out a lot of the bloatware overhead. The registry is reinstalled new except for your app settings.

The problem with Panda on this computer that I had, is that it wouldn't update. Should I give it another try? I really don't know if I should refresh it or what.
