I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop for 3-4 years, out of warranty. When I pick up my laptop or move my laptop, it shuts down unsafely. This happens 8/10 times when I move or touch the laptop. I have had this problem since the day I got the laptop. I sent it back to the company and they 'fixed it' but this only lasted maybe a month and then the problem returned. I am not familiar with the inside of a laptop, so I thought about taking it apart to see if there was a cord unattaching, but I'm afraid that even if this is happening, I may not notice it or be able to fix it. Does anyone think this may be an easy fix or have any suggestions before I take it to a shop?
Thanks
Christina

That can be many things. If something is really loose, you'll never find it. It could come from the disk. Make this test:

Boot the laptop from a USB stick and move it then. If it still shuts down, then the disk is not the culprit. If it is the disk, that would be easy to fix.

If you have no program on hand to boot with, download this .iso from my Skydrive (the download takes about 5 to 8 minutes). Then burn this .iso to a USB stick with this program (is very simple). Then change the boot sequence - keep tapping F8 (ESC for HPs) after Power-on and highlight the USB drive/stick (it has to be plugged in) with the up/down key. Then hit Enter and wait until the program has loaded. Then walk around with the laptop and see what happens.

Hi Christina,

Kindly update your system specs here by following this.

Please let me know if the system was repaired by us. If yes then we can arrange the same to be picked up again and get it repaired.

Does the system shuts down on battery and AC adapter as well. Remove the battery and connect the system with AC adapter only. Then move the system to see if it shuts down.

Also, when the system shuts down does the light on the AC adapter stays on or it goes off. Please check these things and let us know the status.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

what you have is a loose connection.
im going to put my finger in the charging jack. a common issue with ones soldered to the mobo is their tabs snap if you regularly pull the charger out at an angle.
thats to say if the problem only happens when plugged in.

the reason im not pointing the finger else where is 99.9% of laptops I fix over a 3 year old period have a battery life of about 2 seconds as people tend to leave it plugged in all day and all night ^_^ so im going on statistics here lol
