Laptop was working ok, few days later it started beeping on start up

It now also only has 8 beeps befor they stop, and it is on a screen asking me to choose between Launch Startup Repair ( Recommended ) or Start Windows Normally - (( Windows CD is not inside ))

Update : I chose Start Normally, shutdown, and restarted. IT started with no beeps, instead opened a Windows Boot Manager screen, with the choice of " Windows 7 " or for Tools : " Windows Memory Diagnostic "

Update 2 : I chose Windows 7, it started up, i shutdown/restarted. It started up with continous beeps again, and stuck on black screen not going into " Starting Windows " Screen.

Only thing I can suggest now is clean install, but I don't think its going to work unless we can figure out what those beep codes are.

Go back to bios select boot from DVD again insert windows DVD and try a clean install. The tutorial can be found here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

I will do a bit more research, see if I can find anything more out.

Good Luck

Thank you very much, i will try the clean install and see how it goes. With the beeps, it is just continously beepings, not as in it is 1 long beep, but as in, it's 1 beep just after that 1 beep, there instantly is another 1 beep, and so on.

Reading the bottom of the link you gave me, I am leaning towards the last square being the problem if anything, Maybe the one above it - But as there is no actual PAUSE in the beeps, i am assuming it is not the CPU. but out of any 3 i would say it would be one of those, but again there is no actual pause inbetween the beeping, it is just constant 1 beeps instantly after the next.

I will check back here until i finish with my install - Will then check back tomorrow, thanks for all your help so far and helping me find the problem/fixing it.

Haha, well the hard reset did not work for me, But after my clean install i will try the Memory thing. and a hard reset again, If none of these options work, i am assuming it has something to do with the CPU or BIOS.

I will check, when i restart next, i just finished my Clean install of windows 7, IT did continue to beep when it reset to do the first use setup, so i had to figure a way to get into desktop again, going to get the setup done, reset and then try the BIOS Reset if i can find it.

I also posted on the HP website all that we have worked on tonight, and my thoughts on the issues, and will check back with them tomorrow, as i will check back here tomorrow after i check BIOS, i need rest been working on this myself a long while befor i came for help from you ( Which i appriciate greatly ).

Not to mention the 2 or 3 odd hours you have been helping me, I will also try the RAM switching thing tomorrow befor i check back with you and the HP Support, and let you know any updates on that helping or not.

I went into BIOS, and reset to default everything i could, And it is still beeping. I will attempt the Ram change tomrrow and see how it goes. Guessing it is not a BIOS problem now, Probably Processor/RAM/CPU thing IMO. but i will let you know tomorrow, for now i am going to sleep! Night.

Ok, so i woke up, and got started on trying the RAM Switch in both slots with both either in or out, or both in different slots etc etc, Every time i started it up. it just kept beeping.

I also did the BIOS Reset to default last night ( Don't remember if i told you ) And that didn't help either.

HP Have still yet to get back to my post on their website ( Not suprising ) I am now leaning towards CPU or Processor problems, so if there is any way to be able to find out for sure that you know of, please let me know and i will give it a shot.

Will check back here every few hours tonight as i am planning on not working on this damn laptop for atleast a day or two, but if you come up with anything, i will test it. Thank you again for your help!
