Laptop wont accept my phone. HELP!!

I am needing photo's off my phone onto my laptop, so I am trying to plug in with the USB connecter and it is saying Power Surge on Hub Port, I really need pictures off my phone asap because I have an assigment due in a few days which need to include theses photos!! I've tried troubleshooting need help!!

Also I thought maybe it was just my phone and/or my phones connecter, but I tried a friends phone and connecter and came up with the same thing. Really need help asap.

It sounds like your USB port is damaged, I had the same issue on my old desktop after the front ports got damaged. If you don't have a port on the opposite side of the laptop I'd recommend transferring the files onto a different PC then burn them to a disc to get them onto your laptop. Don't persist in trying to use the USB port/s as there is a chance of causing more damage.

Just some quick ideas:
Got a different pc or friend with a pc? Connect the phone, transfer the files to a USB stick\disc, as mentioned.
Got email on the phone? Try sending the pictures to one of your own emails.
Pictures stored on the phone's memory card? Remove it and use some card reader.
Got Bluetooth? Transfer the photos.
