About this file/download
The Intel Chipset Device Software installs the Windows* INF files. An INF is a text file that provides the operating system with information about a piece of hardware on the system. In the case of the current Intel Chipset Device Software, that information is primarily the product name for the piece of hardware. This allows the operating system to show the correct name for that piece of hardware in Device Manager.

Note: The Intel Chipset Device Software does not install drivers for AGP or USB. Do not download this utility if your device manufacturer is recommending it to correct an "AGP driver," "AGP GART," or "USB driver" issue; it will not correct your issue.

After downloading and running this file is there anything else you have to do. Specifically, do you have to go to device manager and update any specific drivers there?

no - the software intaller will do all that for you.

a trip to device manager after install won't hurt though - just to make sure there are no problem devices.

Who said anything about pirated? RTM is available to anyone that has a TechNet/MSDN subscription. So I would expect to see RTM Drivers shortly.

Confirmed but only for Desktop boards, for others its still there(but don't worry it works with RC and RTM)

The version for desktop boards is older (9.​​1.​​1.​​1015) so its best to download the latest (9.​​1.​​1.​​1019) under chipset drivers. Also while it mentions RC on the download page the install notes do not. Either way i installed them on my rtm install with no issues and it only updated the ich10r ahci driver. Have noticed no difference either way.

I reported it Here back in July

The only thing that's changed is the way the drivers are downloaded, using a live system

ive downloaded the following drivers
INTEL Chipset Drivers

v9.1.1.1020, 2009-08-26 (All OS including Windows 7)

v9.1.1.1019 Direct Intel Link, 2009-08-18 (All OS including Windows 7)

their unpack the installer starts but it doesnt update any of the files, iv'e got a hp 1199ew and W7pro x64 RTM, i run rhe installer as an admin on my admin account.
WTF is going one?

Have you tried downloading the from www.intel.com to see if those install. I've had no issue install the new 7 drivers straight off, not compatability or admin required

yep both the ...19 and the ...20, but i read the manual and it says that the setup only updates the files if it needs to. so i think my system is up2date

I have four systems running Windows 7 RTM, and not one of them is using a pirated copy.

good point, i may have been wrong.

but if you feel like quibbling, the term 'RTM' denotes software prior to being released to end-users.

obviously your legitimate software has been released to you, and so is no longer RTM - unless you are a manufacturer.
