Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

Hello Grace, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like you will need to install the drivers only one more time. :)

From first post in NOTE box.
You may need to install the Setup program twice. Install once and restart to uninstall the previous driver version, then a install and restart a second time to install the new driver version. After the first install, verify the driver version in Device Manager after the restart to see if the current driver installed or not. If it is, then you will not need to install the driver a second time.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello and thanks for the welcome. :)

So let me get this straight, since I already installed the Realtek drivers once already, I should uninstall them, restart then install them again? (Do I have to download them again too, or just reinstall them?)

Also, what am I supposed to look for after the first install in device manager? (What's it supposed to show/say.)

Thanks Step, since I already downloaded and installed the drivers once though, I guess I won't need to use that download. (It did take a long time to download.) :P

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!

~Grace

Download the latest version from any mirror , the one above or the first page.If u have the drivers installed the Setup will Uninstall the drivers , restart the PC , Windows will install basic drivers. After that run the Setup again to install the latest drivers and HD Audio Panel then restart the PC and you're done.

In device manager your realtek device will look like this.

I just ugraded from Vista x64 Home Premium to Windows 7 x64 Pro. I have a HP D5000T computer with the integrated Realtek HD Audio. Since I upgraded, Windows only recognizes 2 speakers through HDMI, so I cannot enable surround sound of any kind. I upgraded to the latest Realtek drivers (R245), but still only 2 speakers allowed. This problem was not present in Vista, and Windows 7 would not allow me to use the original Vista drivers.

I've read of some surround sound issues in this thread, is this the same problem that I have? Any input is appreciated.

UPDATE: I checked the box to enable DTS, Dolby Digital, etc. and restarted. I now have surround sound through HDMI with surround sources. The Realtek properties still say max of 2 speakers allowed, so I'm not sure what the issue is, but I do have surround sound again.

Could someone give me complete instructions of exactly how to install the Realtex HD Audio Driver for Windows 7?
Try the EXE version.

If you already have it installed (from a prior use of an older EXE version), the first use of the new EXE will UNINSTALL the previous version and ask you to reboot. When you come back from the reboot just disregard anything relating to sound... which may or may not end up being Microsoft Win7 generic sound drivers to support your Realtek chip. Just don't worry about it.

Now run the new EXE a second time. This time it WILL install the new version, and again ask you to reboot.

Now, after this second reboot, you should have the latest Realtek driver installed.

NOTE: you should then right-click on the speaker icon in the "System Tray" (I still call it that), and select the "Playback Devices" item. If it isn't already green-checked, select the "SPEAKERS" item. You can then push the "Configure" button and configure as needed, and after that push the "Properties" button and configure as needed.

Also note that all prior audio settings (e.g. individual sound levels for individual apps on the "Volume Mixer") from the prior driver version will be lost and all levels for those apps will once again be back at default/maximum level the first time you use those apps following the install of the newest driver levels. You'll have to once again set them individually as you come to them and as your tastes dictate.

Also, the past three or four driver versions have finally resurrected the customizable 10-band EQ which you can save under whatever name you want. But again... new driver installation (i.e. 2-step uninstall of the old and then install of the new by running the new EXE twice and rebooting twice) will wipe out all of those old saved EQ's and you'll again have to rebuild them as well. I recommend you take screenshots of your EQ settings and save them as JPG, to help you rebuild them on the next driver install.

Well, I've tried a lot of different things...and none of them brought my sound back. So, I waited until my sound came back on randomly and now I'm keeping my computer on all the time. At least for now that seems to be working, it's been on over night (I disabled hibernation and sleep, since those make the sound go off too) and my sound is still here today. :)

But...I know I can't keep my computer on forever, and sometimes I'll have to restart it, and then I'll lose the sound again. So, this problem isn't fixed.

If anyone knows anything else I can try, please let me know.

My problem post is on page 51.

Thanks again,
Grace

How about an increase in overall volume output?

Guys,

If you could please help me out, I tried every single suggestion I've found in this or other forums, but with no success.
I have an AsRock ION 330, which had Windows 7 loaded up on it. Upon first boot, Windows itself recognizes the sound device as High Definition Audio Device (version 6.1.7600.16385), which is the stock driver for this device from Microsoft. It plays 2 channel audio flawlessly, but no 5.1 through the 3.5mm jacks (of course, there's no Realtek HD Audio Manager installed to change the speakers setup).
- Then I first tried to install the Realtek driver (2.35) which came with the mobo (Win7 certified). After re-booting, no HD Audio Manager in the tray nor in Control Panel. Another install and re-boot. Still nothing.
- Uninstalled it and downloaded 2.46, installing it twice (following the procedure of re-booting and installing it again). Still nothing.
- Tried to install from a clean boot (started up loading no services or apps, but the OS itself - msconfig). No success.
- Tried to run the installation in compatibility mode (Vista, Vista SP1, Vista SP2 - no XP as it won't even start installing). Nothing.
- Tried to run the setup.exe as Administrator. Still the same.
- Tried to update the driver, replacing it with the 2.46, starting from the Device Manager, manually pointing to a folder where I had the .inf and other driver files saved. It did't work either.
As you guys can see, I'm out of options, almost giving up to have XP installed. It`s really weird because, no matter what I try, the HD Audio Manager won`t show up, and the driver shown in Device Manager will always be the Microsoft one, except when I manually install the Realtek 2.46 over it (which results in no sound at all after rebooting).
Any ideas?

Thank you.
