You won't loose your License on a clean install. Your old keys are honored with the new version. Be sure you have the ID and Key written down and at the top of the Dashboard there will be an Activate button and you can enter your ID and Key. Read the proper proceed for a clean install. Some times the Key is not cleared during the clean process and your ver 2 will activate when installed.

Well, I kind of misspoke. The "spread" across the desktop from Start -> All Programs occurred in WinXP. That's what I was thinking of.

It's different in Win7, where Start -> All Programs produces a large vertical list you must vertically scroll through to get to where you want to be.

With my high-level "category" folders, these are the only thing that appears from Start -> All Programs, and there is no scrolling needed to get started selecting that category folder and then choosing from its expanded contents, etc.

Ok. "Clean" uninstall followed by re-boot, followed by reinstall, seems to have done the trick. The MBAM folder in the Start menu was now movable into my high-level "category" folder in the Start menu without a problem.

Seems it was the reboot which was needed. Logoff/logon was not sufficient.

Also, even though I uninstalled using the MBAM-provided "clean" uninstall program, my registration information was still remembered as were my few previous settings changes. So apparently it was not so "clean" an uninstall. Anyway, I didn't have to do anything to activate the Premium version... it just reinstalled exactly what I had before.

Case closed.

Yes, even though it's not supposed to be strictly necessary, a system reboot after upgrading is a good idea and seems to resolve many minor issues.

FYI, It's important to DISABLE MBAM 2.x Self-Protection (SP) from Settings > Advanced Settings before attempting to uninstall (including running the mbam-clean.exe removal tool) or before attempting to install other MBAM products, such as MBSB and MBAE beta.
It has been somewhat unpredictable on different systems for different users, but the SP module does what it's intended to do: protect MBAM files.
So, having it enabled can interfere with a clean uninstall, and with the other tasks mentioned.
That may be why your license info was retained (especially if you did not reboot after running mbam-clean).

I did not discover the root kit issue; I only attempted to document it.

So I went ahead and upgraded, I gave myself some "Nasty's" in the forms of PUPs, Keygens and Trojan's! (Dont Judge Me...lol)
Ran full scan(custom W/rootkit) It took just shy of 4hrs (Damn thats long)(*over 3TB of space on 5 Disks). It did find everything, with NO freezes/lockups or BSOD's.

Edit:Just over 2TB of Data on 5 HDD's (3.5TB of space)....Not 3TB/space....

I don't think that is a long time with 3 tb to scan.
I do believe that looking for rootkits with any program does take longer.

How much data was there Jeepmann? If 3TB space has 300GB of data, it doesn't make nay difference the size of the drive, it scan only data.

That's encouraging that you say it's gone but I'm still worried and a bit disappointed for people who don't have great computer know how (like me).

But what is there to compare their 60% to ?
If they also showed test results for MBAM V 1.75, or other competing products, things might look different...

I made a System Image before I tested (All my HDDs have a clone)!!
The "Nasty's" I gave to myself were run of the mill common (for a P2P user) that I removed from a laptop I worked on. I knew what I was dealing with and where they were hiding. Safe-ish way to test..
Don't think for a minute that I didn't run a battery of scans and test after the fact!

Yes I know I could have ran a V-Box to test(and I did) but I wanted to see how Mbam would run on MY system with all the data and disk.
