Hello,

When I use my left click mouse button, the right click content menu keeps appearing. This happens often, but not everytime I click on the left mouse button. This is very annoying. I have gone into the Mouse Properties and the "Switch Primary and Secondary Buttons" box under the buttons tab is unchecked.

I have also noticed that there are 2 HID Compiant Mice appears in the Mouse section of the Device Manager.

I have updated drivers for the mouse.

I have scanned for malware and viruses and I have none.

I have even used an OS/2 connector with my USB mouse and tried to plug it into the OS/2 port but it does not work at all with the OS/2 port.

The mouse that I am using is a Logitech B100 corded USB mouse. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello cdurham and welcome to Seven Forums. No guarantees any of this will work but ...

1. Have you restarted your computer? Sometimes that will clear up hardware or software issues.

2. Delete one of the HID compliant mice from Device Manager (unless you actually have two different mice.)

3. Check the box to officially switch the primary and secondary buttons. Use the mouse for a while to see if the buttons have permanently switched. (Turn the mouse upside down so buttons are at the bottom. Your hand will still left click and right click based on the switched buttons.) If mouse works without issues, uncheck the box and see if it continues to work. ( It's kinda like rebooting the mouse. :) )
mouse 2.jpg

4. Run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt. (Option Two this tutorial.)

Hi, cdurham, welcome to the Forum.

Try another mouse if possible. Mice are not failure proof & do wear out after a while, so the easiest thing to do is try another mouse & if the problem disappears then it was faulty, if not then the problem is elsewhere.

Re: left-click right context menu

Hi marsmimar,

1. I have restarted my computer many times. The mouse situation that I am having has been a problem for about 6 or 7 months and I beleive that it started when I replaced my mouse with this current mouse.

2. I have deleted one of the HID-compliant mice numerous times. I have even uninstalled it many times. It always reappears and comes back and this does not solve the problem.

3. I have switched the right mouse button with the left and vice versa. It seems to work that way, but I would like to have my left button function as my left button and my right button be the context menu button.

Hi ranger,

I have tried using another mouse. The same problem still exists.

I seem to recall that some people reported issues if the left and right mouse buttons were clicked at the same time; the buttons switched functions. (Not sure if this was brand specific or applies to any mouse.) Since some buttons are right next to each other perhaps some debris has gotten in between the buttons and occasionally causes a "sticky" effect. Even a build up of skin oil might cause the buttons to stick together. Since the same thing is happening when you switch to a different mouse this is definitely a long-shot idea. :(

Did you install the Logitech B100 mouse software. If so there should be a mouse program you can open that allows you to set up the mouse to your desires.

If there is not a desktop icon for the Logitech mouse, click on the Start button & select All Programs, then scroll down to Logitech, click on it & select Mouse or Mouse & keyboard depending on what is listed. This will open a mouse program that you can tailor to your needs & you should be able to change the how the buttons work.

There was no installation software that came with the Logitech mouse.

marsimar,

I ran the system file checker scan in cmd prompt, and so far, so good.

System File Checker scan "found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them." In the tutorial I provided earlier (my post # 2 above) please see the Note just below Option Two, Step 4:
If SFC could not fix something, then run the command again to see if it may be able to the next time. Sometimes it may take running the sfc /scannow command 3 or more times to completely fix everything that it's able to.
Try running sfc /scannow at least two more times.

Nothing seems to work

I ran the sfc /scannow numerous times and I am still getting the message saying it did not fix anything. I am still having the problem with the left-click context menu appearing. This is about the fourth mouse that I have bought and they all have the left-click problem.

This is definitely a head scratcher.
Since the problem exists no matter which mouse you use, and because it happens at random times, I'm thinking that something computer related (either hardware or software) is affecting the mouse button functions. Here are a couple of troubleshooting tutorials that might help. The first (Clean Startup) might indicate if an installed application or service is interfering in some way. The second tutorial is a long list of troubleshooting suggestions. Not every one will apply to you.

It would seem possible that these corrupt files might be causing the mouse problem.

How old is your hard drive?. It might be getting to the end of it's life.

Do you run regular back ups, so in the event of a complete system failure you can recover you important data & files.

I replaced the mouse and now everything works.. so far

I replaced the Logitech mouse with another mouse and everything has been working so far over the past few weeks. I believe the problem is coming from the USB extentions that I am using and this is what is causing all of the problems. Thank you all for your help!!!:D

I'm having the exact same problem. I even changed my mouse twice, the second new mouse worked for a couple of months and now the misfiring is back. Since it has happened with three mouses, I'm also thinking the USB port is the problem. I tried switching to a new port just today, but it didn't work.
