Hi guys, sorry to make two posts about the same thing, but I couldn't find a delete button for the other :S

Anyway, I have been looking at a Lenovo Z570 laptop for somebody.
It had a fresh install of windows and all drivers where installed and everything in that sense seems fine. The problem is, when you either try and shut down the laptop, or restart the laptop, the computer seems to power down as normal, the screen goes off etc, but, the power light and everything else stays on, and it stays in this state.

I haven't left it for a long time, to see if it turns off itself, but after about 10minutes, I just have to press the power button for it to turn off.

It cannot be software, as I did a clean install myself to see if it would help, and when the computer restarts halfway through the install, I again have to keep hold of the power button to help it through.

I don't know if this is a hardware fault, or could it possibly be a setting that needs changing somewhere?

Thanks in advance :)

A few clarifications and a little bit of history may perhaps help understand the problem.

Lenovo Z570 comes with a one button recovery.

I presume what all you need to do for a system recovery is to press it and you should be able to get it to the out from the factory condition.

So what was the need to reinstall, if you did that reinstall from any other media or took to any other recourse?

You said you did a reinstall yourself. Can you please clarify how you did it?

What was the original OS it came with and what is the edition and version you are trying to install?

Also a screen shot of disk Management can tell us whether the recovery partition is still there. If it is still there and you had tried to reinstall Windows with any non-prescribed procedure, there is always a likely chance of it interfering with such an install. Just my thoughts.

Hmm thats a point J I thought first up that the OP had installed an OEM or something didn't think to ask if it was done as a default install.:o

Hi, I will try some of the suggestions above and see if they help :)

The history of the laptop is not totally known. We are a shop that buy and sell Laptops, now this laptop is in very good condition and is running an i5 processor, so is quite new, so I can't imagine there to be any damage, although I could be wrong.

The reason for installing is to wipe any personal data off the laptop before we sell it.
Rather than do a system recovery which fills the system with junk, we just use a windows 7 disc, along with the code that is supplied underneath the laptop, and format them that way

Hi there ... Going from our other post you have not done a Clean Install .. I think you would need to start again .. You should not have Deleted the Lenovo power management .. As this controls a lot of things .. As stated above you need to post a screen shot of Disk Management ..

Hi Harlem

After having read your other post:

You may jolly-well clean install the same edition of Windows 7 with which the laptop came and activate it using the COA key on the laptop. But for that you will clean wipe the HDD (including the recovery partition), do the clean install and install only the drivers for the devices shown in the Device Manager. It will totally be an out and out Windows 7 without any Lenovo touch.:)

In other words, you cannot keep the recovery partition and hope to retain the original features like one-touch recovery etc., (That is possible only if you reinstall with the recovery disks for that system)

Suppose a new drive is out of the question use the clean install using the ISO and the activation code from the sticker. Then there would be absolutely no doubt the stuff you have on th old drive being around.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2432-usb-windows-7-installation-key-drive-create.html You will need to pick exactly the same OS version and prepare the drive first though.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/197255-windows-7-installation-prepare-pc-sold.html follow the first few steps then install as the first ref.
