LG Cyberlink PowerDVD

I ust finished installing this, because it came bundled with a new LG optical drive that arrived today. During the installation, it popped a dialog saying that it was designed for XP SP2, and whether to go ahead and install it or not. Obviously, I did, but when I tested PowerDVD with a movie DVD, the video plays properly, but with no audio. Nothing is muted and the volume is at max. I went to the configuration, but the audio only had two settings window...the first for number of speakers, and the second for the output mode. I tried every combination that I could think of, but no solution.

Half of the reason that I bought this particular drive is because it included this software. Is there any way to get it to work...short of installing XP?

It looks like you are trying to run that Audigy sound card in windows 7. That card will work in XP but not in Vista or Windows 7. Creative just does not support that card. It is not the fault of Vista or Windows 7 as they did not make the card. I installed the Fatality Titanium just because of that same problem.

I have been running my Audigy ever since the first beta release of W7, and I have never had a problem like this before. It's not the audio card, it is the PowerDVD software.

So I am guessing that you are running cyberlink 7 ultra for Blue Ray?

No. It's version 7, but it says nothing about Ultra. It can't be for blu ray, because it came bundled with a drive that isn't blu ray either.

I am trying to gather information as to help me think about what might be the problem you have as I use and have used Cyberlink from 7 up to version 9 now. My versions have always been Ultra. The PowerDVD came with my 3870X2 video card but I only use that on the laptop for my son to watch DVD's.
In the settings, I don't know what type of configuration you have for speakers IE: hooked up to a receiver, 5.1 hook up off the card to what ever speakers. Anyways, the settings in Cyberlink are preset for a two speaker. I have SPDIF as I have the optical output. I don't know if your version Audigy has the optical (SPDIF). If so then you may have to manually change that in the configuration. Did you update or change anything when this happened? Has the bios changed for the audio? Have you checked if the Audigy or the motherboard is the main source for Audio? Please be patient with me as I am trying to figure out what setting is causing the problem.

My Audigy is a 2 ZS platinum, set to run 5.1 on analog speakers. The PowerDVD is not quite what I'm accustomed to, because it is part of a package of software branded by LG. Even the interface is quite different than before, but I'm not positive of whether that is simply an evolutionary change of Cyberlink's, or a LG adaptation. My previous experience was with PowerDVD 5 OEM, if that is relative. I've not tried my old software on W7 because I lost the serial for it.

Your questions indicate that you are still focusing on the sound card, instead of the software. As said, the sound card works perfectly in every other instance, and going in that direction is not going to find a solution.

EDIT: I did notice that the program pops a nag screen with update offers, saying that it is "now" compatible with W7, which means that it currently isn't, which agrees with the error dialog that I mentioned during installation. It seems odd that it would be compatible with every previous version of Windows (including Vista) and not with W7, but I believe that is the crux of the problem.

EDIT 2: Also worth mentioning, is that there is no sound getting to the sound card, or being seen by the OS, because when I open Windows sound mixer, it shows zero sound coming out of PowerDVD.

I decided to install the LG DVD drive, just in case the software was somehow tied to that hardware, but curiously PowerDVD wouldn't play not only audio, but video neither. No problem playing the same DVD using WMP or a number of other viewers that I have installed.

At this point, it seems more obvious than ever that W7 compatibilty is the issue, so I just sent a request to my vender (ZZF), to see if they could send me a version of PowerDVD that is W7 compatible. I'm not going to hold my breath while expecting them to comply.

Very strange, I rebooted into XP x64 and installed the LG software, and in addition to PowerDVD, it installed the InterActual Player, but there is no sound using either of them. The only things that don't match what it says that it is compatible is that (1) it doesn't say. one way or the other, that it is compatible with x64, and (2) and it said that it was designed for SP2, while I have SP3.

I was considering whether to purchase PowerDVD directly from Cyberlink, but unless I got the full retail package, the upgrade would still involve my current LG bundle, and since it's having the same problems on both XP x64 SP3 and W7 x64 RTM, I'm not going to bet on whether it would work or not.

Before you buy that software from Cyberlink, please be advised that their support is crappy. Each and every update they force you to download in order for the software to work (as I use it for Blue Ray you may not have this problem) there is always some sort of issue with the download that requires me to completely uninstall then reinstall to get it to work again. I have an original disk of the PowerDVD version 7, I would be happy to just send you. It is the full version with serial number. I will never use it. I am not asking for anything for it, I just wish to make an offer to a forum friend.

Oh, the configuration change I was talking about changing is not with the Audigy but the settings in the Cyberlink program

Hate to interject; but for playback software for both DVD and BD media you might take a look at Arcsoft Total Media Theater.

I have all of the Cyberlink programs from doing reviews for them and also WinDVD and I still purchased TMT as it is a much better software, at least IMO.

Mike version 7 does run both, dvd and hd/blue ray.

Hi, newbie here with the same problem, just installed an LG drive bundled with Power DVD 7 and no sound when playing DVDs, not Blue Ray, just an ordinary DVD. Updated on Cyberlink site site from 7 version CDS081211-07 this update installed version 8 but i still have the same problem. Tried SPDIF any many other solutions, it wont work. Wondering if a trial of version 9 would work but am reluctant to part with cash for something i was expecting as part of my LG bundle.

There is one consolation to be found, in that it seems clear that the problem is with the software, and not in some oversight on our part. I tried to find my drive on the LG website, and could not, which in itself seems quite odd. Apparently, LG wasn't very proud of this product, and I would agree with that. To be able to produce and transmit audio is so basic to an application such as this, that it is difficult to understand why this was ever released. I really don't care if LG or Cyberlink caused the problem, they both are responsible for it.

Yes agreed seekermeister, my searches indicate this problem seems to be common and with no real solution. My first course of action is going to be to contact Cyberlink, im not holding my breath though. Looks to me like they want everyone to pay for an upgrade to version 9. Will report back if i get a response.

Ok, i have just tried playing one of my own home made DVDs (why didn`t i do that earlier) and the audio works fine. I can download a free 30 day trial of version 9, but surprise, surprise there are limitations, see below. So i guess if you want to play commercial DVDs an upgrade is the only choice, that will cost me more than the price of the LG drive. Guess i will just use WMP.
