Hello. I am having a problem opening file locations of specific programs. When I right click on the program and click "open file location" it minimizes to the taskbar and will not open or maximize. I can only "un pin or close window.
I have read the help file concerning removing a file from the libary but am unable to get the windows explorer to open to follow the instructions.
Just double clicking on programs minimizes them to the taskbar, and I can not get them to open - only close or unpin- which seems to do nothing.
Any fix short of a nine pound hammer?
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
What are the type of programs giving you trouble.

There is no problem with .doc and picture files but any .exe such as game shortcuts and programs from the start menu - but not all- I can open a window for the control panel, but most windows immediately minimize to the task bar and no amount of double clicking right clicking, draging or head bowing :D will maximize them.
I have since done a system restore and deleted all of the default library files. This seemed to have fixed the issue. Then I reloaded a few games and the same problem occurred. So I'm guessing it is the games? This os is not on line so I thought I would ask here.
Thanks Roderunner.

Also is there an alternative load or uninstall function? what if the CD does not auto install? there seems to be no unstall feature anywhere that I can find. 7 seems to be dependent on the CD auto run.

Welcome to Seven Forums Dave. First why do you want to open a programs file location? Do you mean files instead? By deleting the Libraries, you've used a nine-pound hammer.
Try a couple of things:
1. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html#post208633 Run the ones for .exe, .ini, and .lnk(LNK) associations.
2. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/581-libraries-restore-default.html#post3281

EDIT, three things. Below my signature are are links to MalwareBytes and Super AntiSpyware, download each, update, and do full scans with each to eliminate the infection possibility, even if you have other security installed.

Dave, follow Britton30's advice. As to Auto Run, its one of the first items I disable.

Were you meaning the portable version ? I had been a user but not lately due to the changes to it. Any thoughts on it ?
Apologies to Dave for minor hijacking of your thread.

No, I was referring to a hard drive install, but a Portable would work too. It would need to be updated with each use. SAS has found crap for me that others security ware has not, same for MBAM. Also this is for the free versions since they have no active protection running.

Britton30, thanks for the links. I'll keep 'em for refrence.
The reason I want to open a file location is to install save games, patches, hacks and fixes. also I just like to "see" the contents.
I don't have a problem with file associations.
As I mentioned the machine with win7 is not on the web so I am not running ANY virus protection. I scan all patches, etc. and flash drive them over to the "game machine" (win7)
I have to say I am not all that impressed with 7 - not that I could do any better.:o But my next machine will be Mac.

Roderunner, When the auto run window pops up there are the usual game options; play, setup. install and uninstall. The uninstall option is grayed out, so I went to the control panel the game name is only a reference and and may have been uninstalled, all I can do id delete the reference. So I can't reinstall the game and can't delete it. Is there another way?
MS dos? do you know the text ?

BTW the library problem was fixed by the system restore. -for now.

Sorry to ramble on so.
