limited connections or no connection to the internet

when i open my computer and proceeds to the desktop, it should be connected to the internet automatically right, my question is this:
Why is my connection not connected automatically and it needs to be disabled and troubleshooted before i can get connection?

What way are you connecting to the internet? dsl router, modem? wireless? What does it say in device mngr as to the driver for your connection any triangels? If so could be a driver related issue. Need more information.
