Limited User Account Issues On Startup

So I am very familiar with windows 7 and stuff, and for obvious security reasons I don't want to use a an administrator account just to browse the net and do day to day activities like most people do and then wonder why they have malware.

So I have installed some software from the administrator account that was originally created during install and then I changed that account to a standard user account and created a separate administrator privileged account named admin.

All should be good right? When windows starts up now in the standard user account that I want to use most of the time I need to use my password for certain startup programs like core temp i.e. you have to verify you want to them to run using the administrative password.

What if I don't want to do this? I just want them to run without the password? I tried going in and changing the permissions to allow full control for authenticated users and my standard user account but it still asks for a password on log on.

Is there any way around this?

Perhaps you are refering to the user account Control. To disable it: Turn User Account Control on or off.

After that, there will be no more prompts for your password for anything, however, limited account will still have lower permissions than an administrator and therefore not be able to access everything, as you already know.

You want your standard user account to automatically log on without a prompt to enter a password?

Start
Run
control userpasswords2
will take you to a screen where you can remove a check mark. You will be prompted to enter and verify the password.

If i've got that right, you want apps to run as admin without you having to type in your password or prompting you?

1) Stupid Stupid Idea. The whole point of UAC is to stop stuff from installing itself when it shouldn't. Thats what it's there for. Take it away, hey presto as soon as something tries to install itself that shouldn't, infected machine.
2) It can't be done from a limited account. Well it can, but it defaults back to the XP behaviour, where you will have to right click and then click "Run as Administrator" rather than it prompting you.

Having said all that, if you REALLY want to do it, then disable UAC (Dust Taylor showed you how) then disable the Administrator password.

I'm going to say this one more time, I REALLY do not recommend this.

You could just start the computer as admin and
then switch over to the limted user account.
As said you are asking for trouble turning off
UAC.

I think you're a bit confused. There is no reason to run as a standard user when you are the administrator. Administrators already run as a reduced rights user when UAC is enabled. The only difference between them is that an administrator can elevate his privileges by click the "Ok" box, rather than typing in the password and clicking "Ok".

You need not worry about malware clicking the Ok button for you, as that's not possible in the default configuration. When it goes to a black screen, it runs the dialog in it's own unique "session" that doesn't allow apps running in the normal session to interact with it.

So what value do you see in forcing yourself to type in a password when you want to do administrative tasks?

No. The whole point of a standard user is that you cannot do anything administrative (including accessing hardware, which is what those apps are doing) without the administrator password.

Even if your an them at startup under an administrative user, you'd still be prompted for to agree to the UAC prompt. But at least that's just clicking a button.

There may be a solution, which is to use scheduled tasks to run the application at startup, and then you enter the username and password there. However, this doesn't work for some programs (I haven't been able to get Riva Tuner to work this way because Riva Tuner launches a second application which also needs admin rights, but it does not inherit them from the parent, so it again asks for elevation).

He's being prompted for a user name and password to run programs, not to log on.

Right click on your Core temp icon and select "properties". Go to the "compatibility" tab. UNcheck "Run This Program as an Administrator" Do this for all your programs that you don't want to enter a password for.

Try Power User privileges

If you want to enjoy the feasibility of an Administrator's account with reduced privileges, maybe u should learn about the Power User's account. Simply Google the differences between the Power user and the Standard Limited user.
