Yesterday, from my Windows 7 machine running a fully up-to-date Firefox, I accessed the LinkedIn site. I accessed the LinkedIn home page, and the Jobs, Messaging, and Notifications sections without issue. However, when I click on the My Network section, that did not appear properly. I tried my secondary browser, Chromium, and again the My Network section did not appear properly.

Per LinkedIn’s responses to my query, I deleted the browser cache, rebooted the machine, disabled extensions that could cause issues, but the My Network section still did not appear properly.

I then tried another Windows 7 machine, which is not often used and the only browser on that machine is MS Explorer. I was informed “As of July 1, LinkedIn will no longer support the Internet Explorer 11 browser.”

I then accessed LinkedIn from a Windows 10 notebook and the My Network section appeared properly. When I mentioned this to LinkedIn, I was told: While LinkedIn strives to support a wide range of operating systems and browsers, there may be compatibility issues with older systems like Windows 7, especially as it is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Bottom line: Two days ago they made a change to their site and it no longer works properly with Windows 7 machines. Heck, I didn’t even know this was possible, but I guess for the amount that MS paid LinkedIn, they had to do something to screw us royally.

Websites don't care at all about operating systems, but they do care a lot about browsers. The most likely cause is an outdated browser instead of Win7. Consider that Firefox may stoped giving updates to Win7 unless you do them manually too.

Internet Explorer is a completely obsolete browser by now, not having received a single update in over more than a decade. I would find a miracle that it opens any current website to begin with.

What's possible is that LinkedIn was putting an aritificial limitation on Win7. They can use the user agent to figure out that and refuse to work, without any real reason it could not. Try with a user agent spoofer plugin to see if it bypass the limitation if there is one.

Interesting comment. I did also try Chromium and that too didn't work. Can you recommend a "user agent spoofer plugin " for me to try?

Whatever browser you are on, do a search under Extensions for "User agent." Choose the one by Ray.

In Firefox, go to about:config and set general.useragent.override to this.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:131.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/131.0

SAVVYSCLUTTER: Thanks for the suggestion. I created general.useragent.override, set it as you have shown, restarted Firefox; but no change.

Have you tried using Supermium? It's a Chromium-based browser meant specifically for older machines, and thus should probably be more compatible.

ReadRadRegistry - Great suggestion! I had never heard of this browser before, but I ran it and LinkedIn worked as expected. So, I will uninstall Chromium and use this as my backup.
