Solved Linksys Smart WiFi Router Driver Error in Devices & Printers

I just installed a Linksys EA7500 Max-Stream AC1900 MU-MIMO Gigabit Router between my laptop and my XFinity X1 Modem; this is a "Smart WiFi" router." Everything seems to be working fine.

In "Devices and Printers" it shows an icon for the Linksys router. It also shows the yellow triangle containing an exclamation point that means "Trouble-shooting Needed." When I click on Troubleshoot, it shows 'need to install a driver for this device.' When I click "Apply this Fix," the install fails.

When I open Device Manager, navigate to the specific device and double click on it, it shows that no driver is installed. However, when I click on "Update Driver," I get a pop up that says "no driver files are required or installed for this device."

I even went to the Linksys support web site, and confirmed with a tech that there is no driver to install for this device.

So - do I just live with this? Is there a way to clear the 'warning' (yellow triangle)? Is there something I need to do, and - if so - what do I need to do?

No router needs drivers as such but it could be a admin type of consul could need it does it have an sort of admin other than web based?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I had too much "life" going on and didn't get a chance to log back in.

No, it appears the only console is web based.

Since it doesn't seem to be interfering with any functionality, I guess I can just try to ignore it. Since Windows 7 isn't exactly being fully supported anymore, it may just be that it's a bug in Win7 that won't get fixed.

I'll poke around a bit more, and if I can't find anything - and no suggestions pop up here - I guess I can close the thread. As a precaution, I ran SFC Verify Only to see if perhaps I had any corruption and those results came back clean.

Router firmware that uses internet browsers as a means for console usually doesn't need a driver. Firmware Updating should be done in the internet browser and then going to your router's console.

The Windows error refers to some extra Windows functionality that this router provides, which requires a Windows driver.

As said prior, you don't need any Windows driver in order for a router to do basic routing.

I would ignore the error, if all devices are able to surf the web. But if you want to clear up the error, you could right-click on the device listing (where the error triangle is displayed), and tell it to do an update. It will search the web for an appropriate driver.

I am uncomfortable with the fact that it is looking for a driver, in spite of the fact that Linksys told you that there is no driver available. If that is true, then why is it looking for a driver?

Since the system is working, I'll mark this as Solved. I have no idea why Windows thinks the Router needs a driver when the manufacturer says that it doesn't need it.
