Linksys Wireless Adapter

Driver for Linksys Wireless pci adapter will not install on Windows 7 x64. Is there anyway I can force it to install or extract the driver somehow? It worked fine in my Vista Home Premium 32 so it should work right?

I tried that with no luck. When I try to update driver in device manager it says can't locate software even when I point it right to it. I guess this won't work on X64. Can it be forced?

Nope. 32bit and 64bit drivers aren't compatibile... dll are different, you need a x64 driver for Vista, seems to me it's the only way...

You are 100% correct. I just confirmed that with Linksys support. Thanks for your help though.

Windows 7 provides a generic Wireless USB LAN driver.

Select "Locate and install a driver manually" from the "Update Driver" button from the Driver Properties in Device Manager

This worked for my Linksys USB wireless Adapter in Windows 7 64bit.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, I was able to get my Linksys WUSB54Gv2 adapter to install okay under Windows 7 32 bit edition, but no luck with that driver or with the generic driver that comes with Windows 7 64 bit. So I guess I'm going to have to find a wireless USB adapter that comes with 64 bit drivers.

Granted the device I'm using is 5 years old, but it still works like a champ with XP-Pro and Windows 7 32 bit.

Anyone able to recommend a cheap device with 64 bit drivers?

Thanks for the link but still a no-go. Looks like they support the v4 adapter but not my old v2.

And the generic driver that comes with W7, well it isn't too happy with it either.

For now I'll keep the 50ft cable strung to my router, but I'll have to get it out of the way soon.

I originally took my Linksys WUSB600N USB network adapter off of my old XP 32bit system (where it was working fine) and installed in on my new Windows 7 64 bit computer (which was working fine with wired connections).

It didn't work - support calls revealed that Linksys will not be working with 64 bit drivers for that version of that adapter and that I should buy version 2. I did from Newegg and it didn't work, either.

Returned that to NewEgg and purchased a Linksys WMP54G NIC adapter and installed it and finally got it working with RAlink 2500 drivers (since Linksys doesn't have any 64 bit drivers). But it couldn't see the AT&T access point.

Got a Linksys WRE54G Range Extender out of the closet and plugged it into the wall *next to* the computer. Finally got a signal but not even full bars. Dropping out constantly.

Moved the range extender to halfway between the access point and my system and got nothing. These are NOT long distances.

Took the Linksys WUSB600Nv2 back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a Netgear 311 NIC adapter. Installed that and it couldn't find any networks, either. Driver that it installed came from Microsoft. System began to hang completely with hard reboot necessary.

Put it back in the box to return and decided to put a wired switch between my new system and my old system and shared the network connection on the old system (hell, I'll try anything). The wife *really* wants the cables out of sight.

While looking for a cable, I stumbled across the old 3' extended cable antenna from an old Asus wireless card. I noticed the connector was the same as on the Netgear card.

I got the Netgear out of the box, and as I was installing it, I chose a different slot on the motherboard, the one closest to the edge. Now, on my original Asus motherboard, they insisted that their wireless card go in that particular slot. Different motherboard, different nic card, but what the hell. Did that and attached the Asus antenna and voila, I have wireless networking.

If these clowns keep this up, Apple WILL take over and that guy in the commercials will be impossible to watch. He's a good actor, though - portrays a smug Apple jack*ss to 'T'.

I am running windows 7 64 bit and my motherboard has a marvell 88E8001 on board ethernet adapter that works great in 32 bit OS but I can not get to work in Win7 64. Anyway I tried to use my Linksys "network anywhere" NC100 V 2.4 card PCI card I had laying around to bypass the problem and the drivers online from linksys (cisco) did not work either ())()(&$^@%#%$#*&^$~!. Okay I found an obscure reference to a win XP 64 bit driver from another manufacturer ( infineon) . I ran a search for: " infineon-ADMtek - Networking - Infineon AN983B PCI 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Adapter 64 bit driver" in google and found this link to the microSLOP catalog page: Microsoft Update Catalog It is a Cab file but you can extract it to find the INF file. I copied the info file to my desktop. I installed the network NC100 network card in the PCI slot. Then went to control panel and then device manager. I right clicked on Network adapter NC100 network adapter, then opened properties, then "update driver" and then " browse my computer for driver software ( manually). On the next screen I clicked on Browse and then pointed to the INF file I extracted and copied to the desktop. The file installed and the NC100 card WORKS!. However it shows up as an "Infineon AN983B" adapter instead of a NC100. It works. Hope this ends your frustration too. Perhaps Cisco show fire a few beancounters and hire someone to write drivers? Really the lack of a driver is revoltingly braindead.

Hi, I am a new member to this forum site. I have come here many times to solve my problems. Now maybe I can help solve somebody elses problem.

Go to Ralink corp. and dowload PCI/mPCI/CB (RT2500) . This is a Windows 98 thru Windows Vista 32/64 bit Driver for a Ralink Rt2500.

To make this driver work in Windows 7. You must use compatability mode (Vista service pack 2) for Windows 7. Then run setup. Then go to device manager and update driver and use Ralink Technology,Inc. (not corp) and select 802.11 b/g Wireless Adapter. now reboot after driver installs and all should work good.
