Linux to Windows 7 change and lost my cd

I have a Sony Vaio VPCEB 15-FA. Everything works fine on Linux but, I need to run Windows 7 for some new required work. When I load the 7 the system does not recognize the cd drive. It works fine under Linux. I have reformatted, loaded Windows 7 only etc but, it still does not work.

I assumt that the Linux made firmware changes to my cd drive that need to be reset.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Download Parted Magic and burn it to a CD. Then boot with this disc and format the HDD to a NTFS . After that it should run your win 7 disc.

I believe that he is suggesting that his Linux OS doesn't allow the Win7 OS to be loaded via his CD-ROM. Assuming that he has made the CD-ROM the first boot device in the BIOS and things still don't work, I would burn a version of Parted Magic (as was suggested earlier) and format the entire hard drive to NTFS or FAT32 - either one will work.

Very true, but it will recognize Fat32 and allow a partition and format to NTFS in the setup. I guess I should have clarified that. :o

I have never heard of an OS (be it Linux, Windows, BSD, OS/2, etc.) changing any hardware firmware without user direction.

Can you describe exactly what you do/what happens when you load Windows? Does the Vaio boot to your Windows install DVD or does the Vaio not "see" the drive?

If the DVD boots, are you then formating the hard drive as NTFS? If YES, does Win7 then install? If YES, is it then that Win7 doesn't find the DVD drive?
