Live mail has been out all day for me and I wonder if any other people are having problems. I have been away for a week and I know that I will have Emails waiting to be answered but they will not download.

Had it stop working once today, let Windows report it, restarted it without further issues.

Strangely enough your reply actually came through my Email. I tried the connectivity check and this came up so it looks as though I'm not connected or do I not understand the situation?

Ping8.8.8. is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

ip addresses must contain four blocks.
Try "ping 8.8.8.8"

I turned it off then on again then left it and after a couple of hours of no Livemail fifty or so messages came in but it’s been like this for a couple of weeks. I just tried ping and the four 8s followed by full stops and the response was the same as above yet I'm still in contact.
I know that BT or its firm who does the setting up of fibre optics whose name I can’t remember have been messing about in the village for weeks so I wonder if it’s them. On the other hand I recognise that I have a box inside the house where the telephone line comes in and one line goes round to my five telephones and the other goes up into the attic, along the roof space then down into my computer with a line from that to my BT hub or whatever it’s called and it’s possible that there is a problem there. I’m getting fed up with my broadband disappearing for hours at a time so I have to do something but I know not what.

Its always ideal to have your router/modem connected to the source of your supply, if you have wireless on your pc may be worth trying to connect your box to the BT master. If you are still losing connection then it is likely (but not impossible) that your problem is external, if your connection holds steady while connected to the BT master then its probable that your issue is with your internal telephone extension wiring.

A bit long winded but may help to narrow down the issue ??

Many thanks for that Pauley. The following question will expose my lack of technical understanding.

I can understand having the router connected to the source of supply.
I can’t understand what is meant by connecting my box to the BT master.
By the way I just clicked onto the ping icon I have and keyed in four 8s followed by full stops then clicking return and nothing showed.

By BT master I mean the first telephone point in your house the one with the BT logo on it
