Solved local group policy editor
I have created three user accounts on my computer. Admin, Maint and operator...added the operator account to the group policy snap-in with very restricted policies. Problem is I have somehow associated the Admin and maint as well, how do I reset the local group policy back to default settings? I need to recover the admin capabilities to make changes to the computers.

i'm locked out of all programs my pc
Hi, I may have a very similar problem. I was researching how to prevent users of a PC from using internet explorer and google chrome in order to prevent web browsing. I found a website that directed me to run gpedit.mmc, and then find "limit which programs can be run". Well, I didn't realize that this would apply to all users of the computer. So I have effectively made it so that even when logged in as the administrator, I can't open any program including the command promt except for excel. Will option 3 from the link provided allow me to reset the group policy back to default? I can't open command prompt even if I select "run as administrator."
Thanks to anyone who can help!

Hello courtship, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You could try using OPTION ONE with a .vbs file to reset group policy back to default.

Thanks Brink. When I run the vbs file, I get the same message I get when I try to run any other application, "this operation had been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please see your system administrator."
Same when I try to run mmc or gpedit.....

In that case, you should still be able to use OPTION THREE in a command prompt at boot.

Thank Brink. That is the news I was hoping for. I am a little surprised that gpedit.mmc will allow a person to do completely render the computer useless without a warning message or something. After all, I can't even install a program from a cd without windows triple verifying that I really really want to do this.
I was concerned about rebooting the computer because at least my outlook is currently open. I'll give the reboot a try in the morning and will post the result here afterwards.
Thank you again for your help!!
