Solved Lock a File or Folder.

My phone has a function to where I can select any file (audio, text, video, picture, etc.) and 'lock' it. It is then impossible to delete. Simple, easy, no fuss-no muss. How can I do this in W7 for any file and folder?

Looks like denying write and delete permissions to certain folders to everyone but one person is the best windows can do -- did not check for any 3rd party lock utility, I'm on android tablet one finger typing.

thx Roland - way too involved and not as easy as my phone's pick & choose one-clik. amazing that a simple device can do something that all-powerful more complex devices fail here.

The difference is that in a phone users have a limited account and with an standard unrooted phone there is no other user account available. Most phone users have no problem with such limitations. Protecting files from deletion by such users is easy.

Things are different in a computer. Home users typically use an admin level account which can be easily elevated to full admin level access. Such an account has the ability to delete most files. Many files, such as those owned by the Trusted Installer account, are more difficult to delete. But after taking ownership, an inherent capability of an admin account, even these restrictions can be avoided. Most home users expect this level of control. Many people have come to this forum wanting help is removing the default restrictions.

You can protect a file from deletion by anyone, including yourself, using the method lined to by RolandJS. But any elevated admin level account can easily remove this protection. You can remove the ability of an admin user to do this, but they could easily take it back.

OK - the Method-1 took way too long. I will proceed to, according to article, research the 'easy' Method-2.

Oh Happy Day! - Found a freeware (there are many out there) that does the job faster and easier than my phone with many options I'll need to checkout. This one definitely resolves the op!
