Locking up computer - CPU Vcore experiencing massive fluctuation(33%)

BAH! The computer locked up with a new video card. Same as usual.

I had no lockups for 46 hours using Intel HD graphics. This lockup occured about 7 hours after installing 6770.

It looks like we are dealing with a:
1) Bad PCI connectors on mobo
2) PSU issue

This is what I will be advising my retailer to test tomorrow, as I am cutting my losses and bringing the computer in. It's free repairs but honestly, I preferred to not have strangers meddling with my parts (hence this thread). Oh well.

Any other suggestions on what the problem can be now that it's locked up with 2 PCIe cards, but is stable when using Intel HD graphics?

Mark, I don't know enough about video cards to give you an answer. I don't have that problem. But, using logic, the drivers for any card are located in the OS. So, until the OS loads, your video card is on it's own. That seems logical to me. But, I'm sure some more knowledgeable about video cards will answer soon.

I suspect this is a memory (or CPU) problem. Download memory diagnostics and run them at boot time for an hour or so.

Or alternatively, run Prime95 with the settings as I previously suggested.

As you first posted:

- Anything in a USB slot can still receive power. However anything new plugged into USB cannot.
- The lockups occur randomly; sometimes when nothing is running at all but the OS.
- All functionality is gone.

Doesn't sound like a video card issue IMO.

Well great. After over 1 year of no problems, the same issue has returned after doing a repair install of Windows 7.

I've re-installed all my drivers but still getting the same random freezes as before.

Any suggestions?

One stick of memory could be/is bad

- causes the bios to flip the voltage up to 1.6x to try to get it past post.

The borked memory then causes loads of other intermittent problems further down the line.

Try leaving one stick in for a few days - then swap.

Can't believe you were still overclocking parts whilst fault finding!
