Looking for a screenshot capture application

I've used greenshot in the past but it don't work on Win 7 and the author don't reply my support request. I would like to be able to capture the active window so I don't have to trimm things by hand. Greenshot trimms too much of the borders, here is a screenshot where you can see the issue:

Alt-Print Sc will copy the active window to the clipboard.
Windows 7 has the snipping tool built in (type snip into the start search)

if you don't mind paying a little ($18), i would suggest looking into Window Clippings. it can capture the transparency of aero window borders, and can save them as transparent PNGs. it's also great at capturing menus. it all happens via a right-click menu that becomes available when you hit the special hotkey, so there's no GUI to get in the way.

Thanks Barman58 and garbanzo, I didn't know about the snipping tool, it has the same issue then greenshot and probably most other capture tools. I hope there will be a free alternative to Window Clippings.

I use FastStone Capture.
6.3 is shareware, 5.3 was the last freeware version they released.
Does what you want and more.

PicPick is another good free one. it also has a ruler, protractor, color picker, magnifier, and whiteboard. and no, it does not over-crop.

What is this "overcrop Aero borders" that thou dost speak of.

I've just tested Built in (Alt->Prt) Screen for a window - result perfect

Snip - result nearly perfect _slight remnant on the corners of rounded corner

Snag-It - remnants of rounded corner remain

Fast Stone also leaves the remnant


Apart from the corners - all are perfect
(my background - wallpaper is very dark - thus the dark title bar

My surprise is that snagit didn't do a better job.

Meant to say that Snagit and Faststone capture also offer scrolling window (eg for web pages that scroll beyond the screen) which can be very useful - the editing capabilities of Snag-It are stunning, worth every penny!
TechSmith (maker of snagit) also make Jing (free) which has cool text Arrows editing and social networking built in - don't know how it works in 7.

That has got "Shadow" applied - turn off the shadow and it should be good.

It is, with white background and dark window color my problem was solved, thanks guys, this is a great place here.
