hello guys, n girls i am looking to build a new desktop been reading posts here of people building rigs this will be my first build. i am not sure what i would need to get fot the intent that i want to use it for.

i will be using to to edit mpeg 4 video clips (not HD), possible some light gaming, might edit some photos and surfing the web.

so what parts and tools would i need and keep in mind i don't have the biggest budget to work with. currently selling stuff on ebay and working to get the money.

ok so here is what i found that was a good price and would make a decent machine well in my eyes with out "breaking the bank"

case: Antec Two Hundred Midi-Tower Case - NO PSU, Black (TWO-HUNDREDv2) | Techbuy Australia

motherboard: ASUS P8H61-M LE (Rev 3.0) Motherboard (P8H61-M-LE-V3) | Techbuy Australia

Ram: A-RAM 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC-12800 1600MHz DDR3 RAM - 9-9-9-24 (ARTW4GB1600C9D3P) | Techbuy Australia

powersupply: CoolerMaster 500W Extreme Power PSU - ATX 12V v2.3, 120mm Fan (RS500-PCARA3) | Techbuy Australia

video card: PowerColor Radeon HD 5450 - 1GB DDR3 - (650MHz, 1334MHz) (AX5450-1GBK3-SH) | Techbuy Australia

cpu: Intel Core i3 540 Dual Core (3.06GHz, 733MHz GPU) - LGA1156 (BX80616I3540) | Techbuy Australia

dvd drive: LG GH22NS50 DVD-RW Drive - SATA, Black OEM | Techbuy Australia

Operating system: LG GH22NS50 DVD-RW Drive - SATA, Black OEM | Techbuy Australia

total cost: $665.2

yeah i would like to keep it a bit cheaper than that but i want a half decent graphics card not one that cost hundreds any suggestions would those parts work good would that be a decent machine? or a suggestion on a graphics card thats still good but little cheaper and less ram hungary??

Make sure the RAM is 1.5 volt to match the Sandy Bridge specification.

No reason to get 1600 MHZ PC-12800; stick with 1333 MHZ PC-10600.

Otherwise, it looks pretty good for your budget.

You've listed the DVD drive twice, with no operating system.

You've picked a lga 1155 MB and a lga 1156 CPU. Maybe someone else can tell if they are compatible. I know you can't do it the other way around, but don't know if the 1155 is backward compatible.

That's what I thought but wanted confirmation before I made any rash statements.

All for a bit over $300 + tax. Just add an ATX case of your choice (sometimes you can get one for next to nothing), or HTPC case, O/S and HDD + any other optical drives (DVD writer). Some places will sell you OEM operating system if you buy the HDD at the same time. The Gigabyte MB has built in video and sound. I plugged in my old graphics card and using the onboard sound. The onboard sound seems to be quite good, I find it better than my old Audigy 2 ZS. The MB is future proofed with support for the faster Sata HDD and USB 3.0. I am quite pleased with the build so far, the 8 MB of ram should be great size for any video editing which is fairly intensive.

This is a do it all PC / Media Center with sound output to an external receiver. Plays all games, TV, Video, all controlled via a tablet. A second computer acts as a backup for data, and in case the main goes down.
This chip, INTEL CPU CORE i3 2120 will go with the MB you picked out. It's about 25.00 more but you can get by without a video card.

The processor should contain the video--irrespective of the motherboard. I have a big brother to that processor which contains video and I think all Sandy Bridge processors are that way. A separate card would help only with gaming (3D performance).

I haven't checked the mobo for sound, but I'd guess it did. Nearly all mobos do nowadays.

Above is confirmation on the video being built into processor.

It has this audio built in to the motherboard: Realtek® ALC887 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC

If you get a CPU with built in video, you'd be good to go. You could always add a discreet video card when your finances allowed later. A Guy

Beast Of A Machine!
The ram you listed is 1.6V. Most Sandy Bridge boards can run 1.6V ram but prefer 1.5V. Most manuf. have ram specifically designed for Sandy Bridge. First, choose the MB you want, then go to their web site and each board has a QVL list wich shows the ram tested with those boards. You can use that specific ram, or usually if you stay with the same brand listed with the same voltage, speed and timings you won't have any problems.
