hi there,

i have been using win7 for a couple of weeks and i love it. i have two laptops now running win7 successfully.

however, i have been a subscriber to onecare antivirus for my home network for over a year. its a paid for service and i like it. but there is nothing to replace it.

i know se / morro is coming out, but in the uk at the present time there is no microsoft coverage of antivirus for win7, which is a major problem for me. especially as im paying microsoft still.

anyone got any advice?

Like you said Onecare is coming to an end and Morro is not out yet. Check this page out for links to beta version of antivirus that work with Windows7.

I understand how you feel about your license ticking away and you can't use it, but technically Windows 7 is a beta and security product support is always sketchy for betas. Hopefully MSE will be generally available by the time "7" is released, if not sooner. Meanwhile just use one of the free AV's. I'm using Avast! and it seems to be fine. PC Tools Firewall Plus also appears to work OK and will give you extra protection. You can try the MSE beta, but I found it a little flaky and went back to Avast.

Hi benstevensuk, if you are really concerned about the security of your computer, remember that the security starts with you. Anti viruses are just a layer of defense against human mistakes but you need to know what are you doing and you'll never end up infecting your pc. Go for ESET NOD32 AV or Smart Security and you won't regret paying for it. Its the best security program available for windows IMO. ;)

yep, thats the problem. i want to upgrade all our computers to win7, but i cant get refunded for onecare and i cant use onecare with win 7.

so, what is happening is microsoft is forcing me to decide between upgrading to new software or waiting for a year until my subscription is up with one care. seems a little odd. although i guess being offered free antivirus support goes some way to soften the blow. lol

They will come up with the final release of MSE that will be provided free. That could be a choice for you, if you like MS products. Or if you are looking for a paid one, go for ESET NOD32 4.

well... yeah... kinda...
on my netbook which i started using win7 about 5 weeks ago i was running avg free trial, which has now run out and im trying trend microsystems free trial.
on my main (desk based) laptop im now running avg's trial as ive only just installed win7.
i figured if win7 worked alright for a month on my netbook it was worth a try on the big'un. so far so good. there are a few driver issues on my big sony still, but it's early days.
still a bit disapointed that there isnt microsoft coverage in the uk for anti-virus yet, but hey-ho. i'm sure its not far behind. i guess it gives the other companies a chance to get some customers too. i think over the last 5 years i've moved much more heavily into complete microsoft integration. for me its almost a one stop shop these days, with office live, calander and windows mobile all moving closer together. i use the lot
