Hi there,

I know there have been a lot of posts regarding this issue but I have yet to find a solution for my problem.

I upgraded from Windows Vista 32bit to Windows 7 64bit ( I checked the system previously and it said it was 64 bit compatible). Previous to the upgrade, my resolution was 1200 x 800. Since the upgrade, the screen resolution is maxed out at 1024 x 768. I presumed this was a graphics card driver issue. I went into Device Manager and saw my graphics card was called "Standard VGA adapter" instead of the Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 series.

I tired updating the driver for the VGA adapter and it told me everything was up to date. I then went to Nvidia website and downloaded the latest drivers. (Here's where the fun started!) I downloaded the latest version for Windows 7 64bit, tried to install but it keeps telling me that it is a Vista driver and therefore cannot install. I tried running it in Compatibly mode, same thing again. It also tells me I'm running a 32bit version of Nvidia installer even though I downloaded Win 7 x64 version!?

I then downloaded the latest Windows 7 drivers for my version of the Sony Vaio, that failed to install.

I cannot find a windows 7 driver anywhere that will work! I've tried every possible driver / update for the laptop and graphics card but to no avail! I updated all the Windows updates, no difference either.

It was the correct version of display driver also "179.48 beta". I had read online if I uninstall the VGA adapter and then install graphic driver it will work but again I've had no luck.

It is really starting to annoy me now! I'm a graphic designer and I need the screen resolution at it best! I can't even install the Adobe creative suite as it says my graphics card is not high spec! I never had an issue with graphics display on Vista, I really don't want to go back to it though!

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Hi

Try uninstalling your graphic driver with DRIVERSWEEPER, now install REVO and in advanced mode detect & uninstall all related applications. Once uninstalled, run CCLEANER to fix up you registry, remember to do your registry. Now download the latest PhysX & Driver from the manufacturers website & store them to your desktop. I know Nvidia should have an auto detect option that works like a driver detection app, this should allocate you the correct driver for your card. Don't install yet. Now download & install Auslogics defragger & run a slower but more intense defrag on your machine. Restart your machine & install both the graphic driver & PhysX..

Once done you should have only the downloaded driver in device manager under your display.
Let me know..
:what:

You should use a Nvidia WHQL driver not a Beta version.

Beta means the bugs in the driver have not been corrected.

So you are not using the correct driver to install.

Got it working!! :D Thanks very much to both you for your help!! I did all the actions you specified SmurofNeves, but instead of using the beta version, I used a Windows 7 WHQL driver and it worked!!

So happy that this is fixed!!! It is such a relief to have a proper screen!!

Thanks again! You have been very helpful!!
