I'm having a problem w/the driver for MagicDisc, I'll try to list as much as I can recall.

On the 5th of this month, I recieved a new hard drive & I proceeded to install 7 Pro 64Bit & all my programs. All was going just fine when I ran into trouuble installing MagicDisc. I recieved some error about the driver not being "certified by Microsoft" (or something along those lines). Since I've used MagicDisc in the past on 7 Pro 64Bit, I still let the driver go through w/the installation. After this, my computer started going bad.

Checkdisc came up during reboot; after all was done, computer started but went right back into Checkdisc & looped once again. I then started in Safe Mode & tried a System Repair, but that was a no go. This went on for 2 days & I could not remedy the problem.

Then, I got another harddrive & reinstalled the OS & all my programs again (leaving MagicDisc for last). After a day of Windows Updates, checking programs & reboots & finding out all was well; I decided to install MagicDisc. Same problems arose & I had to get things checked out professionally; it was concluded that my problems had to do w/some driver named: MCDBUS.DLL

I now have a NEWLY Fresh install of Win 7 Pro 64Bit & everything has been installed exept MagicDisc. I am a little hesitant to try MagicDisc again, so I emailed the company ([email protected]) but have not heard back from them in 4 days. All I'd like to find out is if there are any problems w/Magicdisc's program/driver.

cjw,

Please visit this link:FAQ on Windows 7 Compatibility Center: Hardware Devices & Software Programs: Drivers, Updates, Downloads

Unfortunately, compatible means only that the mfg says its compatible. With a Win-7 logo, then MS has tested and marked the product as compatible.

Your product does NOT have a MS logo.

Please carry out following:
Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

If you are trying to state that my 7 Pro 64Bit SP1 OS is NOT genuine, you are sorely mistaken; it IS genuine & all is up-to-date. And the comfuser was built by me.

The program, MagicDisc, is 3 1/2 years old. The programmer probably moved on and never bothered with the Windows 7 certification process for its program. In that time span, Microsoft has continually tweaked its OS security so uncertified (risky) drivers are prevented from installing.

The fact it worked in the past doesn't help, since the OS is a fresh install with recent patches.

It would be best to find newer alternatives rather than drag the horse and buggy out to the airport to taxi jet-lagged passengers.

F**K!!!
Everything was running fine & I never installed MagicDisk. Turned on the computer this mourning & again things are messed up.

1st, booted just fine to the desktop; but if I try to open/run anything, the comfuser will just hang for 15-20sec. then open/run:
Open the C: ... hang
go into Control Panel ... hang
Ctrl+Shift+Esc (Task Manager) ... hang
MSConfig ... hang

I tried rebooting & that takes quit a long time. My Standard Account does not show-up during boot (but folder is still there w/all files in it). I cannot get online (using wife's laptop now). Went into Safe Mode & all folders look to be fine.

Then I tried F8, went into System Recovery, tried System Repair & 3 different Restore Points; but each gave me the same error (pic below). I don't even have a Hard Drive D, just C!

All I did yesturday was install SP1 & play some puzzle-type games (offline).
karlsnooks, I did update my System Specs as best as I can, if there's anything else you need to know, let me know.

Just called Microsoft & what a waste of time! After I explained everthing, I was told:
"Just reinstall the OS"

No help as to why my Standard Account is not showing up at the login screen, no explaination as to the reason System Repair & Restore Points are looking for a D:, no troubleshooting of any kind!

DAMN!

There's a reason no one wastes their time calling Microsoft for support. That's why forums such as this exist.

Now, it sounds to me like your OS is corrupt, or you have a hardware issue, such as bad memory. Have you run Memtest? You could also try running a repair from your Windows 7 install media.

DeaconFrost: didn't think of that, but I wiped the HD last night w/DBAN & reinstalled 7Pro 64Bit this mourning. Once everything is up & running, I'll run MemTest. Is there a test I can use for the CPU (AMD) & Motherboard (MSI) as well?

Maybe Prime95 or something like that. If your cooling is up to par, making the system work hard for a while usually will expose processor or motherboard issues.

For what it's worth, DBAN will do the job, but it's way overkill for a drive you are keeping and using again. DBAN is useful for a drive you plan to sell on eBay or throw away, etc. Kind of like burning your house down and rebuilding, just to clean the carpets.

I'm using the stock fan on the CPU right now. I don't do much of anything that is highly taxing;
Photoshop sometimes, but just to resize/clean-up pics of watermarks.

BTW, what is too high of a temp for an AMD Athlon II X3 CPU? I never did find this out.

Ok, 7 Pro 64Bit installed & all but 2 updates (the 32GB SD Card update & IE9). So far I've only installed Logitech's SetPoint & my Canon Printer software.

Just to check, I went into Event Viewer & found all sorts of errors & warnings. Since this install is fresh, can anyone help decipher what all these mean? I'm wondering if something in there was the cause of my problems before.

I'm a little confused on which MemTest package to DL & how to run it, some help please?

Ok, saved them as text files, hope someone can tell me if anything needs addressing right away.

I put the text files into .zip format because the Security Log itself was over the 1.00MB limit.
