Hi,

Removed the Bing Bar from Chrome using ‘Setting /Manage Search Engines’. IE though does not seem so straight forward. Using ‘Manage add-ons’/ Search Provider the Bing Bar was deleted, in ‘Tools + Extensions’ it is shown as disabled with no option to delete. I have also look in the Add and Remove Programs but it is not listed there. I am unable to delete the Bing folder as it is in use by another application.

To uninstall Bing Bar:

1. Click Start, and then click in the Start Search box.
2. Type appwiz.cpl, and then press ENTER.
3. In the Uninstall or change program list, click Bing Bar, and then click Uninstall.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions

Thank you very much for your help (and patience) in dealing with this matter for me, your input has been invaluable, I really do appreciate it.

This experience has led me to wonder about the software that I have been using such as SpyBot and Malwarebytes given that they did not detect this particular problem. What would you recommend that I use in the future? I was thinking of one of the downloads such as Adwcleaner.

You can try to run aswell this little Rogue DHCP Server detection.

Grab the RogueChecker.zip, right click then unblock the file, unzip and run the tool.

For example mine is an allowed IP address so i checked the box for the tool not bumping into it.

A lot of anti-malware programs have added some search plug-ins (add ons) to their 'white list'. I don't understand it, but some people actually either like those search browser helpers, or they don't know they have them.

Keep Malwarebytes' ... it's great for detecting malware. It just doesn't detect and quarantine some 'adware'.

Forgot to add this ... AdwCleaner is constantly adding updates to it's definitions. Keeping an old version won't be of much help, so you can delete the old one and download a newer version when you feel something is not quite right.

Better use the Uninstall box method when AdwCleaner is launched for that proper, it will delete automatically the downloaded file!

By the way tried & ran AdwCleaner, just found nothing on my system apart an old folder from a previous uninstall.
